Reconfigurable Inflatables Through Controlled Surface Crumpling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Inflatable structures offer remarkable versatility due to their compact storage and rapid deployment, making them ideal for lightweight, quickly assembled, and deployable applications. These structures are typically made from membranes that are nearly inextensible yet highly flexible.

Comparison of boom-corridor thinning and thinning from below harvesting methods in young dense Scots pine stands

open access: yesSilva Fennica, 2010
At present, only a small proportion of the potential extractable bioenergy from young dense forests in Sweden is utilized. The conventional mechanized first thinning systems used in such stands suffer from low productivity, so the operation is only ...

Intramolecular Interactions between Folded and Disordered Regions Shape Ubiquilin Structure and Function

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ubiquilin (UBQLN), like many other human proteins, contains both well‐folded and disordered regions. Here, we show that intramolecular interactions between disordered regions and folded domains modulate between open and closed topologies of UBQLN proteins, altering their structure and function.

PERBAIKAN BEBAN KERJA KERJANTARA DALAM KEGIATAN PENEBANGAN SECARA MEKANIS MELALUI PENERAPAN PRINSIP ERGONOMI

open access: yesJurnal Penelitian Hasil Hutan (Journal of Forest Products Research), 2017
Tree felling  operations in  Indonesia are commonly  done by  standing or bending  workers,  using chain saws.  These techniques cause  high  stump residues  (about  8.94%)  and  increase  workers' energy  consumption by 12% for standing and 55% for ...

Machine Learning‐Assisted KCl‐CaCl2‐LiCl Electrolyte Design for Low‐Temperature, High‐Performance Calcium‐Based Liquid Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A machine learning‐assisted framework optimizes the KCl‐CaCl2‐LiCl ternary electrolyte. The optimized 13:35:52 mol% composition enables Ca‐based liquid metal batteries to operate stably at 480 °C, with >99.5% coulombic efficiency, ultralow self‐discharge, and excellent cycling stability, advancing low‐temperature large‐scale energy storage.

Intrinsically Mitochondria‐Targeting Nanozyme via Coordination‐Assembly of Natural Quercetin for Cascade Antioxidant Therapy of Cerebral Ischemia‐Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers that quercetin naturally targets mitochondria. By coordinating quercetin with Fe3+, we engineer an ultrasmall cascade nanozyme (MCN) with superoxide dismutase‐catalase activities. MCN crosses the damaged blood–brain barrier, scavenges mitochondrial ROS, prevents mitochondrial DNA leakage, and blocks the cGAS‐STING pathway, thereby ...

Damage to residual plants during felling and timber extraction on Sal (Shorea robusta Gaertn. f.) dominant forest in Nepal

open access: yesAgricultural Ecology and Environment
Tree felling and timber extraction are among the primary forest management activities in Nepal. However, significant research gaps persist regarding the types, causes, and severity of damage to residual plants during these operations.

Tandem Duplication‐Driven Neofunctionalization of UDP‐Glycosyltransferases Shapes the Diversification of Triterpenoid Saponins in the Cucurbitaceae

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present a chromosome‐level genome assembly of Siraitia grosvenorii and, through comparative genomics, uncover a conserved UGT73 tandem array driving triterpenoid saponin diversification in Cucurbitaceae. Crystalized SgUGT73AM30 further reveals the regioselectivity mechanism underlying its catalytic activity.
