Trefftz radial basis functions (TRBF)

open access: yesComputer Assisted Methods in Engineering and Science, 2022
The TRBF's are radial functions satisfying governing equation in the domain. They can be used as interpolation functions of the field variables especially in boundary methods.

100 years of GAMM: Motivation, history and achievements

open access: yesZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, Volume 106, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract The International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (Gesellschaft für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, GAMM) was founded in 1923 with the goal to strengthen the field of scientific engineering by the foundation of an Engineering Association with strong scientific contacts to Applied Mathematics.

A Romantic Genius? The Experience of Knowledge that Shaped Werner Heisenberg's Scientific Persona

open access: yesBerichte zur Wissenschaftsgeschichte, Volume 48, Issue 1-2, Page 72-90, August 2025.
In 1976, the year that Werner Heisenberg passed away, Armin Hermann published a short biography, titled Werner Heisenberg in Selbstzeugnissen und Bilddokumenten. Since then, historians and biographers have offered their accounts on Heisenberg's life and his contributions to modern physics. Many of these biographies present Heisenberg as a genius.

Comparison of FEM calculated heat transfer coefficient in a minichannel using two approaches: Trefftz base functions and ADINA software

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
The paper presents the methods of heat transfer coefficient determination for boiling research during FC-72 flow in a minichannel. The boundary condition in the form of distributions of temperature on the outer side of the minichannel heated wall was ...

A mixed hexahedral solid‐shell finite element with self‐equilibrated isostatic assumed stresses for geometrically nonlinear problems

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 125, Issue 24, 30 December 2024.
Abstract Mixed Finite Elements (FEs) with assumed stresses and displacements provide many advantages in analysing shell structures. They ensure good results for coarse meshes and provide an accurate representation of the stress field. The shell FEs within the family designated by the acronym Mixed Isostatic Self‐equilibrated Stresses (MISS) have ...

On the systematic construction of trial functions for hybrid Trefftz shell elements

open access: yesComputer Assisted Methods in Engineering and Science, 2023
In this paper the possibility of applying the Trefftz-method to thick and thin shells is discussed. A mixed variational formulation is used in which the assumed strain and stress functions are derived from the three-dimensional solution representation ...

Variational Integrators and Fluid‐Structure‐Interaction at Low Reynolds‐Number

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 19, Issue 1, November 2019., 2019
Abstract For the special case of incompressible and highly viscous fluids, the interaction with a rigid body can be collected in a damping matrix, relating the velocities and angular velocities of the body with the fluid force and torque. This damping matrix (a.k.a. viscous resistance matrix) depends exclusively on the geometry and needs to be computed

Boundary Particle Method with High-Order Trefftz Functions

open access: yesComputers, Materials & Continua, 2009
This paper presents high-order Trefftz functions for some commonly used differential operators. These Trefftz functions are then used to construct boundary particle method for solving inhomogeneous problems with the boundary discretization only, i.e., no inner nodes and mesh are required in forming the final linear equation system.

Trefftz methods for plane piezoelectricity

open access: yesComputer Assisted Methods in Engineering and Science, 2023
Starting from the governing equations, the general solution and the complete solution set for plane piezoelectricity are derived in this paper. Subsequently, the Trefftz collocation method (TCM) is formulated.
