Ghostbusting—Reducing bias due to identification errors in spatial capture‐recapture histories
Abstract Identifying individuals is key to estimating population sizes by spatial capture–recapture, but identification errors are sometimes made. The most common identification error is the failure to recognise a previously detected individual, thus creating a ‘ghost’ Johansson. This results in positively biased abundance estimates.

Forest regeneration in tropical bracken‐dominated deforested areas is mainly hindered by dispersal limitation. We found differences in species composition of seed‐dispersing birds and bats between the forest and bracken‐dominated areas, which could be one of the main causes of dispersal limitation in forest regeneration in tropical bracken‐dominated ...

Molecular population genetic analysis of the spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus) in the northern Andean area [PDF]
Eighty-two Andean bear samples obtained in three South American Andean countries were analyzed using five hypervariable microsatellite markers. Neither the overall sample nor the samples coming from each of the countries analyzed were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium.
