Resorbable impedance sensors are successfully implanted into porcine small intestinal anastomoses. Impedance was recorded for 2 hours prior, and 2 hours following ischemia induction, and a significant drop in tissue impedance was observed. Abstract Anastomotic failure remains one of the most severe complications in gastrointestinal surgery.

The Trw type IV secretion system of Bartonella mediates host-specific adhesion to erythrocytes.
Bacterial pathogens typically infect only a limited range of hosts; however, the genetic mechanisms governing host-specificity are poorly understood.

Five millennia of Bartonella quintana bacteraemia.
During the two World Wars, Bartonella quintana was responsible for trench fever and is now recognised as an agent of re-emerging infection. Many reports have indicated widespread B. quintana exposure since the 1990s.

To distinguish how Salmonella invades cells vs how it survives long‐term, a parallel CRISPR screening platform is developed. This approach reveals the host proteins that the bacterium exploits at different stages of infection. The study identifies SORL1 as a novel host factor for invasion and demonstrates that blocking it with an antibody effectively ...

Isolation and characterization of Bartonella quintana from parotid gland of an immunocompetent man. [PDF]
We describe a case of the isolation of Bartonella quintana from the parotid gland of an apparently healthy man. Pathological examination showed intraparotid granulomatous abscessual lymphadenitis.

An Engineered Solidified Peptide Hemocyte Sponge as Nanomotor Storage to Combat Bacterial Colitis
Peptides immobilized via nickel coordination can stabilize the framework structure. Following coating with red blood cell membranes, these constructs are capable of continuously sequestering endotoxins and mitigating colonic pathogenic damage by alleviating bacterial‐induced ferroptosis.

From Enlistment to the Grave: The Impact of the First World War on 52 Canadian Soldiers [PDF]
Because they have clearly demarcated beginnings and endings, wars tend to be studied in isolation. Studies are made of the events leading up to wars, the wars themselves, and their aftermaths as though each could be easily pigeon-holed.

Droplet Digital CRISPR for Nucleic Acid Detection
This review outlines recent advances in droplet digital CRISPR technology for nucleic acid detection, combining CRISPR specificity with droplet digital‐based absolute quantification. It summarizes core principles, amplification‐assisted and amplification‐free strategies, and representative DNA and RNA biomarker applications.

ESCMID postgraduate technical workshop on intracellular bacteria: from biology to clinic. [PDF]
Infection by intracellular bacteria can lead to several diseases in both veterinary and human medicine. Unfortunately, the biology of these intracellular bacteria is highly complex due to their interactions with their host cells.
