Immune response to Treponema pertenue and Treponema pallidum Nichols in patients with yaws

Research in Microbiology, 1990
Human sera from African patients with acute yaws were analysed by Western blot (WB) against antigens of Treponema pallidum Nichols and two Treponema pertenue isolates. The Western blot patterns were remarkably similar from one patient to another, and strains of both subspecies exhibited exactly the same banding pattern.

Activation of Complement by Treponema denticola

Journal of Dental Research, 1991
Oral spirochetes have been shown to be associated with periodontal diseases and are present in increased numbers in lesions of greater severity. In this study, the interaction of Treponema denticola with human complement, a major antibacterial defense system, was examined. For each of two strains of T.

Treponema denticola infection is not a cause of false positive Treponema pallidum serology.

The new microbiologica, 2005
It has long been assumed that parodontal disease can be a cause of false positive results in syphilis serology, but so far there are no definitive data supporting this hypothesis. In this study we tested 250 serum samples obtained from blood donors. All of them were negative when routinely screened for antibodies against Treponema pallidum.
