Primitivity testing in free group algebras via duality

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 113, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Let K$K$ be a field and F$F$ a free group. By a classical result of Cohn and Lewin, the free group algebra KF$K\left[F\right]$ is a free ideal ring (FIR): a ring over which the submodules of free modules are themselves free, and of a well‐defined rank. Given a finitely generated right ideal I⩽KF$I\leqslant K\left[F\right]$ and an element f∈I$f\

Isotopy and equivalence of knots in 3‐manifolds

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 113, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Two knots K$K$ and J$J$ in S3$S^3$ are isotopic if and only if they are related by an orientation‐preserving diffeomorphism of S3$S^3$. This claim follows from the fact that any orientation‐preserving self‐diffeomorphism of S3$S^3$ is isotopic to the identity. We show that this same idea applies to any prime oriented closed 3‐manifold.

Structured Triangular Limit Algebras

Proceedings of the London Mathematical Society, 1997
A class of triangular UHF algebras are investigated which have the special property that there exists a sequence of unital multiplicative contractive finite-rank conditional expectations of the algebra into itself, which converges strongly to the identity, whose ranges form an increasing chain with dense union.

Complete triangular structures and Lie algebras

International Journal of Computer Mathematics, 2011
In this paper, we study the families of n-dimensional Lie algebras associated with a combinatorial structure made up of n vertices and with its edges forming a complete simple, undirected graph. Moreover, some properties are characterized for these structures using Lie theory, giving some examples and representations.

Ternary mappings of triangular algebras [PDF]

open access: yesAequationes Mathematicae, 2021
We take acategorical approach to describe ternary derivations and ternary automorphisms of triangular algebras. New classes of automorphisms and derivations of triangular algebras are also introduced and studied.Junta de Andalucía and Fondos FEDER ...

Coordinates for Triangular Operator Algebras

The Annals of Mathematics, 1988
Let A be a Cartan subalgebra of a von Neumann algebra M. This means A is a masa in M, the set of unitaries \(u\in M\) satisfying \(u^{-1}Au=A\) generates M, and there is a faithful normal expectation from M onto A. The simplest example has \(M=M_ n({\mathbb{C}})\) with A its subalgebra of diagonal matrices. In their papers [Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 234,

On the Closure of Triangular Algebras

American Journal of Mathematics, 1990
The author constructs triangular algebras in the hyperfinite \(II_ 1\) factor and in \(B(H)\) whose norm closures are not triangular. These examples answer the question about triangular algebras in the negative.

IMBEDDING OF ALGEBRAS IN ALGEBRAS OF TRIANGULAR MATRICES

Mathematics of the USSR-Sbornik, 1980
It is proved in the paper that an algebra which satisfies identities of the form ??is imbeddable in the algebra of triangular matrices over a commutative algebra . This permits us to answer both the question due to L. Small concerning the imbeddability of an arbitrary nilpotent algebra in a matrix algebra over a commutative algebra and the question ...

Weak module amenability of triangular Banach algebras

open access: yesMathematica Slovaca, 2011
Let A and B be unital Banach algebras and let M be a unital Banach A,B-module. Forrest and Marcoux [6] have studied the weak amenability of triangular Banach algebra $\mathcal{T} = \left[ {_B^{AM} } \right]$ and showed that T is weakly amenable if and ...
