A Study on the Effect of Structural Compliance Placing in Soft Contact/Collision Properties of Multirotor Micro Aerial Vehicles

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article answers the question “Where is the best place to apply compliance in a multirotor micro aerial vehicle to make it more collision‐resilient?” by analyzing the output data of more than 1200 drone collision tests for four main configurations of micro‐quadcopters each possessing a unique softness layout of physical frame.

Smoothing and untangling triangular meshes on surfaces

open access: yes, 2010
In this work it has been developed the basis of shape quality metrics for triangular meshes on surfaces. It has also been worked out a simultaneous smoothing-untangling procedure based on the ideas introduced by Escobar. This procedure is designed through the minimization of an objective function (inverse of the quality of the mesh).

Tiling Robotics: A New Paradigm of Shape‐Morphing Reconfigurable Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Tiling robotics is a novel paradigm of shape‐morphing reconfigurable robots, defining them as polyform‐inspired machines capable of transforming between at least two polymorphic shapes. Various reconfiguration‐enabling and locomotion mechanisms of tiling robots are comparatively analyzed, with the electromechanical developments, along with a proposed ...

High‐Throughput Nanorheology of Living Cells Powered by Supervised Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Herein, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and machine learning are combined to determine the viscoelastic properties of living cells at the nanoscale. A universal regressor that predicts the viscoelastic properties of mammalian cells from AFM experiments is developed. The regressor predicts the viscoelastic parameters of two cell lines.
