Trypanosoma cruzi infection enhances olfactory response in Triatoma pallidipennis Stål (Hemiptera: Triatominae) to compounds potentially useful for insect control

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 39, Issue 1, Page 160-170, March 2025.
Triatoma pallidipennis is one of the main vectors of Trypanosoma cruzi, the causative agent of Chagas disease. Attractant activity of octenol, nonanal and a mixture of lactic acid, hexanoic acid and ammonium hydroxide on T. cruzi–infected and non‐infected T. pallidipennis nymphal stages.

The main sceneries of Chagas disease transmission. The vectors, blood and oral transmissions - A comprehensive review

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2015
This review deals with transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi by the most important domestic vectors, blood transfusion and oral intake. Among the vectors, Triatoma infestans, Panstrongylus megistus, Rhodnius prolixus, Triatoma dimidiata, Triatoma ...

Modelling the potential geographic distribution of triatomines infected by Triatoma virus in the southern cone of South America [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Triatoma virus (TrV) is the only entomopathogenous virus identified in triatomines. We estimated the potential geographic distribution of triatomine species naturally infected by TrV, using remotely sensed and meteorological environmental ...

Molecular data supports monophyly of Triatoma dispar complex within genus Triatoma

open access: yesInfection, Genetics and Evolution, 2020
The genus Triatoma contains numerous species, principal or secondary vectors of Chagas disease, which have been included in the three main lineages of Triatomini tribe based on morphological and biogeographical characteristics: North American, South American, and T. dispar complex. The three members of the T.

Morphological structure of salivary glands, alimentary canal, and Malpighian tubules in adult Eurydema spectabilis Horváth, 1882 (Heteroptera, Pentatomidae)

open access: yesMicroscopy Research and Technique, Volume 88, Issue 1, Page 323-341, January 2025.
In E. spectabilis, the salivary glands are divided into principal and accessory glands. Microvilli and numerous secretory granules were found in Malpighian tubules. Numerous uric acid crystals and bacteria were found in the rectum lumen. Abstract Eurydema spectabilis (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) has a piercing‐sucking mouth type and feeds on plant sap ...

A revised classification of the assassin bugs (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Reduviidae) based on combined analysis of phylogenomic and morphological data

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 50, Issue 1, Page 102-138, January 2025.
This study produces the first combined morphological and molecular phylogenetic analysis for Reduviidae and reveals synapomorphies and diagnostic traits for clades at the ranks of subfamilies and tribes. Based on our resulting robust phylogenetic reconstructions and subsequent optimization of morphological character information, we propose a ...

Infectivity of Aflagellar Epimastigotes of Trypanosoma caninum in the DH82 Cell Line and Mouse Peritoneal Macrophages

open access: yesJournal of Parasitology Research, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Background:Trypanosoma caninum presents aflagellar and flagellar epimastigote, trypomastigote, and spheromastigote forms in axenic cultures. Attempts to utilize trypomastigote forms of T. caninum to develop in vitro and in vivo infection models have failed. To investigate the infection potential of aflagellar epimastigotes, T.
