Phylogenetics based on partial ORF2 of Triatoma Virus in Triatomines Collected Over a Decade from Domiciliary Habitats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The only virus sequenced and studied in triatomines is the Triatoma virus (TrV), from the the Dicistroviridae family which causes delayed development, reduced oviposition and premature death of infected insects.

Host‐foraging stable flies, Stomoxys calcitrans, are preferentially attracted to objects with both visual and thermal host‐like characteristics

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 172, Issue 2, Page 111-122, February 2024.
To study the effects of thermal cues on foraging stable flies, we tested the hypothesis that flies preferentially alight on objects with host‐like temperature, and on objects with both visual and thermal host‐like cues. Flies preferred host‐like temperatures when in foraging mode, but not when offered only infrared stimuli.

Proteinase and gelatinolytic properties of a triatoma infestans extract

open access: yesAllergologia et Immunopathologia, 2004
An extract of Triatoma infestans has previously been demonstrated to produce specific IgG and IgE both in animals and in atopic humans with rhinitis/asthma as well as hypersensitivity pneumonitis in guinea pigs aerosolized with T. infestans. We attempted to determine whether the antigen or antigens responsible belonged to the protease group, as occurs ...

Natural selection and genetic variation in a promising Chagas disease drug target: Trypanosoma cruzi trans-sialidase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Rational drug design is a powerful method in which new and innovative therapeutics can be designed based on knowledge of the biological target aiming to provide more efficacious and responsible therapeutics.

Extracellular vesicles isolated from Trypanosoma cruzi affect early parasite migration in the gut of Rhodnius prolixus but not in Triatoma infestans

open access: yesMemórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2019
The protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi has the ability to spontaneously secrete extracellular vesicles (EVs). In this paper, T. cruzi EVs derived from epimastigote forms were evaluated during interaction with triatomine bugs Rhodnius prolixus and Triatoma ...

Impregnated Netting Slows Infestation by Triatoma infestans [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2008
We used sentinel animal enclosures to measure the rate of infestation by the Chagas disease vector, Triatoma infestans, in an urban community of Arequipa, Peru, and to evaluate the effect of deltamethrin-impregnated netting on that rate. Impregnated netting decreased the rate of infestation of sentinel enclosures (rate ratio, 0.23; 95% confidence ...
