Comparative Meiotic Studies in Triatoma sordida (Stål) and T. guasayana Wygodzinsky & Abalos (Reduviidae, Heteroptera)

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1998
Triatoma sordida and T. guasayana are competent Trypanosoma cruzi vectors, with overlapping distribution areas in Argentina. Both species are morphologically similar, and their immature stages are hard to discriminate.

Modelling the potential geographic distribution of triatomines infected by Triatoma virus in the southern cone of South America [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Triatoma virus (TrV) is the only entomopathogenous virus identified in triatomines. We estimated the potential geographic distribution of triatomine species naturally infected by TrV, using remotely sensed and meteorological environmental ...

Blood meal sources of wild and domestic Triatoma infestans (Hemiptera : Reduviidae) in Bolivia : connectivity between cycles of transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Chagas disease is a major public health problem in Latin America. Its etiologic agent, Trypanosoma cruzi, is mainly transmitted through the contaminated faeces of blood-sucking insects called triatomines. Triatoma infestans is the main vector

Levantamento da fauna de Triatominae (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) em ambiente domiciliar e infecção natural por Trypanosomatidae no Estado de Mato Grosso do Sul Survey of Triatominae (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) fauna in domestic environments and natural infection by Trypanosomatidae in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul

Hosts and vectors of Trypanosoma cruzi discrete typing units in the Chagas disease endemic region of the Paraguayan Chaco. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Active Trypanosoma cruzi transmission persists in the Gran Chaco region, which is considered hyperendemic for Chagas disease. Understanding domestic and sylvatic transmission cycles and therefore the relationship between vectors and mammalian hosts is ...

Evolutionary ecology of Chagas disease; what do we know and what do we need?

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 11, Issue 4, Page 470-487, April 2018., 2018
Abstract The aetiological agent of Chagas disease, Trypanosoma cruzi, is a key human pathogen afflicting most populations of Latin America. This vectorborne parasite is transmitted by haematophageous triatomines, whose control by large‐scale insecticide spraying has been the main strategy to limit the impact of the disease for over 25 years.

Triatomíneos: ação ovicida de alguns piretróides Triatomine: ovicida action of some pyretroids

Taxonomic and systematic analysis among triatomine bug species (Hemiptera, Reduviidae) from colonies of the Special Health Service of Araraquara (SESA), inferred from 16S rDNA mitocondrial sequences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008

Immunomodulation by Trypanosoma cruzi: Toward Understanding the Association of Dendritic Cells with Infecting TcI and TcII Populations

open access: yesJournal of Immunology Research, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Dendritic cells (DCs) are major immune components, and depending on how these cells are modulated, the protective host immune response changes drastically. Trypanosoma cruzi is a parasite with high genetic variability and modulates DCs by interfering with their capacity for antigen recognition, migration, and maturation.

Mitochondrial PCR‐RFLP Assay to Distinguish Triatoma brasiliensis macromelasoma from Triatoma brasiliensis brasiliensis Subspecies (Hemiptera: Reduviidae)

open access: yesJournal of Tropical Medicine, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Triatoma brasiliensis sensu lato (s.l.), the main vector of Chagas disease in northeastern Brazil, is a species complex comprising four species, one with two subspecies (T. brasiliensis brasiliensis, T. brasiliensis macromelasoma, T. juazeirensis, T. sherlocki, and T. melanica), and each taxon displaying distinct ecological requirements.
