Triatomines: Trypanosomatids, Bacteria, and Viruses Potential Vectors?

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2018
Triatominae bugs are the vectors of Chagas disease, a major concern to public health especially in Latin America, where vector-borne Chagas disease has undergone resurgence due mainly to diminished triatomine control in many endemic municipalities ...

Synthesis and Evaluation of the First Generation of Glycosylated Nucleoside Analogues as Potential Inhibitors of the Base J Metabolism in Kinetoplastid Parasites

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 32, Issue 10, 9 March 2026.
Novel analogues of the kinetoplastid‐specific DNA base J unlock a new way to target parasite epigenetic regulation. Some compounds selectively inhibit Leishmania and Trypanosoma species without harming human cells, revealing a promising route toward innovative antiparasitic therapies.

Correlation between infection rate of triatominies and Chagas Disease in Southwest of Bahia, Brazil: a warning sign?

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2016
Chagas disease, caused by the Trypanosoma cruzi, has a wide distribution in South America, and its main method of control is the elimination of triatomines. It is presented here the geographic distribution and the rate of natural infection by T. cruzi of

Artificial intelligence‐powered microscopy: Transforming the landscape of parasitology

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, Volume 301, Issue 2, Page 280-329, February 2026.
Abstract Microscopy and image analysis play a vital role in parasitology research; they are critical for identifying parasitic organisms and elucidating their complex life cycles. Despite major advancements in imaging and analysis, several challenges remain. These include the integration of interdisciplinary data; information derived from various model

Synthesis and In Vitro Activity of Hypofuran B and Analogs Against Plasmodium Falciparum and Trypanosoma Cruzi

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 1, January 2026.
Hypofuran B, drynaran, and a series of analogs are obtined by crossed aldol condensation from furfural dereivatives. Compunds are tested for in vitro activity agaisnt Trypanosoma cruzi and Plasmodium falciparum. Best results are obtained Against P. falciparum, with IC50 values ranging from 5,35 to 10,35 µg mL−1.

Successional and native forests predict the occurrence and infection status of Chagas disease vectors in Panama

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 1, January 2026.
Findings here show that successional forest predicts greater kissing bug infestation risk in palm trees, whereas native forest predicts lower kissing bug occurrence but greater infection with T. cruzi. These insights can guide land use planning towards vegetation management practices that help minimize T. cruzi transmission risks for rural communities.
