Shear Banding in True Triaxial Tests and Its Effect on Failure in Sand
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 2001The occurrence of failure, mechanisms that create failure, and soil behavior in the vicinity of failure have been investigated. One mechanism is smooth peak failure, in which the soil continues to behave as a continuum with uniform strains, and smooth peak failure is followed by strain softening.

Shear Band Formation in Triaxial and Plane Strain Tests
1988This paper presents the results of a combined theoretical and laboratory study of the formation of shear bands in triaxial compression, triaxial extension, and plane strain compression. The principal finding is that shear bands are initiated more easily under plane strain than under axially symmetric conditions of the triaxial test.

Modelling of cyclic behaviour of a cohesive soil by shear torsionaland triaxial tests
2004This paper analyses the results of undrained cyclic torsional shear and compression loading triaxial tests run on undisturbed Noto soil. The cyclic torsional shear test was performed under stress control while the compression loading triaxial test was performed under strain control.
