Influence of Carbon Nanoparticles on Electrically Induced Wear of Grease‐Lubricated Steels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
When an electric current enters a pair of rubbing surfaces, enormous damage takes place. In this research, how such damage occurs in the presence of protective grease and the mitigation with added carbon nanoparticles, were investigated. It was discovered that those particles regulate transport and interfacial electrical stability of the grease ...

Adhesive and molecular friction in tribological conjunctions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This thesis investigates the underlying causes of friction and ine ciency within an internal combustion engine, focusing on the ring-liner conjunction in the vicinity of the power-stroke top dead centre reversal.

Gradient DLC-Based nanocomposite coatings as a solution to improve tribological performance of aluminum alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The low hardness and poor tribological performance of aluminum alloy as moving component greatly restricts their wide applications in automotive fields. In this letter, an attempt to deposit gradient Ti/TiN/Si/(TiC/a-C:H)multi-layer on aluminum alloy is ...

Literature Study of the Potential Natural Oil Extracts from Plants as Bio Lubricants Using Local Resources in Indonesia

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings
Lubricants are useful for reducing the negative impacts of friction. An engine that is not properly lubricated will easily wear out, make noise, and produce excessive heat.

Experimental Investigation of Tribological Properties of Two Fully Formulated Engine Oils with Additional Nanoscale Spherical Zirconia Particles

open access: yesLubricants, 2022
Decreasing harmful emissions of vehicle engines is becoming more and more challenging due to stricter standards. A possible solution is to improve the tribological attributes of lubricants, which can be achieved through the application of appropriate ...

Material Before Morphology: Substrate‐Dependent Mechanical Tuning of Radular Teeth

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Substrate‐dependent material tuning in Clausilia radular teeth. Closely related taxa retain a conserved gross tooth morphology, but differ in elemental composition and mechanical properties according to feeding substrate. Rock‐associated taxa show increased Ca–Si enrichment and higher stiffness and hardness, especially in the central radular region ...

Doping effects on the tribological performance of diamond-like carbon coatings: A review

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings have garnered considerable interest due to their unique features, which include wear resistance with a low friction coefficient, high hardness, biocompatibility, and chemical inertness. Their tribological performance is

Passive Directional Water Transport on Superhydrophobic Gradient Textures Fabricated by Direct Laser Interference Patterning

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Microstructures fabricated by two‐beam DLIP combining spatial‐period and roughness gradients are fabricated to enhance directional transport of water droplets. The coupled gradients increase transport distance by 160% and strongly suppress motion against the gradient, demonstrating an effective strategy for controlled droplet manipulation.

Viscosity and tribology of copper oxide nanofluids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Nanofluids, a term proposed by Choi in 1995 [1], are composites consisting of solid nanoparticles with sizes varying generally from 1 to 100 nm dispersed in a liquid.
