Sleep in an Amazonian manatee,Trichechus inunguis
Experientia, 1992For the first time, sleep was studied in a representative of the order of Sirenia. Slow wave sleep occupied 27%, and paradoxical sleep 1% of the total recording time in the Amazonian manatee. Trichechus inunguis. The circadian rhythmicity of sleep was pronounced.

Trichechus manatus latirostris (Manatee)
1977Lymphocyte cultures were used for these karyotypes which were kindly donated by Dr. D.A. Duffield, Los Angeles, California. They come from Florida manatees and pairing is arbitrary, following that of White et al. (1976). Only one previous manatee, T. inunguis has been studied with 2n=56 (Loughman et al., 1970).
