Environmental Trichlorfon and Cluster of Congenital Abnormalities

Obstetrical & Gynecological Survey, 1993
Of 15 live births in one Hungarian village in 1989-90, 11 (73%) were affected by congenital abnormalities and 6 were twins. Of the 11, 4 had Down syndrome. Likely causes of such clusters (known teratogenic factors, familial inheritance, consanguinity) were excluded.

TRICHLORFON TOXICITY IN PIGS

Australian Veterinary Journal, 1977
A field outbreak of suspected poisoning is recorded from feed medicated with the organophosphorus insecticide trichlorfon. A controlled experiment showed that toxicity could occur when trichlorfon was fed from 3-5 days at levels greater than that recommended. Signs recorded were inappetence, muscle tremor, ataxia and deaths.

Trichlorfon-induced congenital cerebellar hypoplasia in neonatal pigs

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1986
SUMMARY The neuroteratogenicity of trichlorfon was evaluated in 3 groups of pregnant sows (8/group). The treatments were: control (no trichlorfon), trichlorfon (60 mg/kg of body weight) in the feed only on day 55 of gestation, or trichlorfon (60 mg/kg of body weight) in the feed on day 55 and day 70 of gestation.

An acute and subacute neurotoxicity assessment of trichlorfon

Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, 1984
The toxicity of trichlorfon (O, O-dimethyl-2,2,2,-trichloro-1-hydroxyethylphosphonate, Dipterex®, Dylox®), reported to elicit delayed neurotoxicity in man and chickens, was studied by administering single subcutaneous doses of 100 or 300 mg/kg to adult White Leghorn hens.
