Diversity, Composition and Resilience of the Root Microbiome of Tomato Plants in a Hydroponic Rockwool System. [PDF]

open access: yesEnviron Microbiol Rep
The root microbiome of tomatoes in hydroponic rockwool was species‐rich but dominated by a few abundant organisms. Treatment with a Trichoderma‐based biocontrol product did not perturb the bacterial microbiome. Composition and diversity of the bacterial community changed over the sampling period in both treated and control samples.

Water Soluble-Nitrogenous Secondary Metabolites From Talaromyces annesophieae MD2 Exhibit Anti-Bacterial, Anti-Cancer, Anti-Oxidant, and Cytoprotective Activities. [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiologyopen
The dichloromethane extract (DCM‐E) was prepared from the culture supernatant of the fungus Talaromyces annesophieae MD2 was fractionated using chromatographic techniques. The subfraction 3 was determined to contain four major nitrogenous compounds and exhibit antibacterial, anticancer, antioxidant, and cytoprotective activities.

A New Species and Five New Records of Talaromyces (Eurotiales, Aspergillaceae) Belonging to Section Talaromyces in Korea

open access: yesMycobiology, 2023
Talaromyces is a genus within the phylum Ascomycota (class Eurotiomycetes, order Eurotiales, family Trichocomaceae). Many species in this genus are known to produce diverse secondary metabolites with great potential for agricultural, medical, and ...

In situ Linkage of Fungal and Bacterial Proliferation to Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion in B20 Biodiesel Storage Tanks

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Renewable fuels hold great promise for the future yet their susceptibility to biodegradation and subsequent corrosion represents a challenge that needs to be directly assessed. Biodiesel is a renewable fuel that is widely used as a substitute or extender

Discovery and Extrolite Production of Three New Species of Talaromyces Belonging to Sections Helici and Purpurei from Freshwater in Korea

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2021
Three novel fungal species, Talaromyces gwangjuensis, T. koreana, and T. teleomorpha were found in Korea during an investigation of fungi in freshwater. The new species are described here using morphological characters, a multi-gene phylogenetic analysis

Wide divergence of fungal communities inhabiting rocks and soils in a hyper‐arid Antarctic desert

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 25, Issue 12, Page 3671-3682, December 2023., 2023
We tested the differential selective pressure of rock and soil habitats on fungal communities in Antarctic deserts. We found a strong differentiation of the communities in the two habitats characterised by different microclimatic conditions. Rocks were dominated by lichenized fungi, while soils by yeasts.

Phylogenetic Analyses Reveal Monophyletic Origin of the Ergot Alkaloid Gene dmaW in Fungi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Ergot alkaloids are indole-derived mycotoxins that are important in agriculture and medicine. Ergot alkaloids are produced by a few representatives of two distantly related fungal lineages, the Clavicipitaceae and the Trichocomaceae.

Cyanobacteria as a critical reservoir of the environmental antimicrobial resistome

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 25, Issue 11, Page 2266-2276, November 2023., 2023
Abstract Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is predicted to cause a worldwide annual toll of 10 million deaths by 2050. This looming public health threat has been linked to antibiotic overuse and pollution, which places selective pressures on AMR maintenance and transfer in and between microbial populations.
