Tadpoles of Rhinella schneideri as reservoirs of trichodinids in continental aquaculture [PDF]

open access: yesAquaculture, 2018
Abstract Restricted contact between wild amphibians and cultured fish facilitates the transmission of various diseases, including parasitic diseases. The trichodinids are one of the most important ectoparasites in fish farming in continental aquaculture, as they cause significant lesions in the integument and in the gills of the animals, causing ...

A new species of Tripartiella (Ciliophora: Trichodinidae) from Aequidens tetramerus (Perciformes: Cichlidae) in north Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
A new species of Tripartiella is described from the gills of the wild saddle cichlid Aequidens tetramerus in north Brazil. Wet smears of skin and gills of examined fish were air-dried at room temperature and impregnated with Klein’s dry silver method for

Alpha-Tubulin and Small Subunit rRNA Phylogenies of Peritrichs Are Congruent and Do Not Support the Clustering of Mobilids and Sessilids (Ciliophora, Oligohymenophorea) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Peritrich ciliates have been traditionally subdivided into two orders, Sessilida and Mobilida within the subclass Peritrichia. However, all the existing small subunit (SSU) rRNA phylogenetic trees showed that the sessilids and mobilids did not branch ...

First endozoic record of a trichodinid ciliate in fish (note) [PDF]

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research, 1976
Unidentified trichodinid ciliates (Protozoa: Ciliophora: Urceolariidae) were recorded within the tissues of the New Zealand freshwater eels, Anguilla australis schmidtii (Phillips) and Anguilla dieffenbachii (Gray). Organisms were small, measuring approximately 10 μm in diameter, and it is not known how they enter the eels.
