Survey on the role of brown hares (Lepus europaeus, Pallas 1778) as carriers of zoonotic dermatophytes

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2010
The occurrence of dermatophytes and keratinophilic fungi was investigated by hair-brush technique on the coat of 986 apparently healthy brown hares (Lepus europaeus, Pallas 1778) caught in 9 restocking and capture zones in Central Italy.

Deep and disseminated dermatophytosis in immunocompromised populations—A systematic review

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Dermatophyte infections of the dermis and subcutaneous tissue (i.e. deep dermatophytosis)—associated with secondary complications including pseudomycetoma and systemic dissemination—affect vulnerable populations with primary or acquired immunodeficiencies.

Effect of Catechin on the Ultrastructure of Trichophyton mentagrophytes

open access: yesJournal of the Japanese Association for Infectious Diseases, 1994
The effects of (-) epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg) on the morphology of hyphae and conidia of Trichophyton mentagrophytes were examined using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. EGCg inhibited the germination of conidia and subsequent hyphal growth.

Trichophyton mentagrophytes DERMATOPHYTOSIS IN WILD FOX [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Wildlife Diseases, 1980
Dermatophytosis caused by a zoophilic varient of Trichophyton mentagrophytes was diagnosed in a litter of eight captured wild red fox (Vulpes fulva). The animals had widespread partial alopecia and scattered crusty foci 2 to 3 cm in diameter on the skin.

From plant to fabric: Environmental opportunities associated with annatto dye for sustainable development in the textile industry

open access: yesColoration Technology, Volume 142, Issue 3, Page 333-353, June 2026.
Abstract Natural dyes are compounds that occur naturally in several organisms and are classified based on chemical structure and application method. The literature cites several natural dyes used in industrial transformation processes. Annatto dye is used in the food industry, and its biological pigment is extracted from the annatto seed. However, this

Epidemiology of Dermatophytoses in Switzerland According to a Survey of Dermatophytes Isolated in Lausanne between 2001 and 2018

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2020
Dermatophytes are the most common pathogenic agents of superficial mycoses in humans and animals. Knowledge of their epidemiology can facilitate the prevention of dermatophytosis and improve prophylactic measures.

Survival and resistance of Trichophyton mentagrophytes arthrospores [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1978
The effects of several physical and chemical agents on the survival of Trichophyton mentagrophytes arthrospores were investigated. Although arthrospores of this dermatophyte were highly resistant to chilling and freezing, they were extremely susceptible to moderate heat (above 50 degrees C) and desiccation.

T. indotineae: A New Emergent Fungal Pathogen Driven by Global Travel

open access: yesMycoses, Volume 69, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background The global spread of Trichophyton indotineae, a multidrug‐resistant dermatophyte, remains insufficiently understood due to limited data on migration‐associated dissemination and emerging local transmission. This study reviewed available evidence and integrated international migration statistics to assess the worldwide distribution ...

Antifungal Inhibitory Activity Test of Papaya Leaf (Carica papaya L.) Ethanol Extract Against the Growth of Trichophyton mentagrophytes

open access: yesBerkala Ilmu Kesehatan Kulit dan Kelamin (Periodical of Dermatology and Venerology)
Background: Trichophyton mentagrophytes is one of the dermatophyte species that commonly infects keratin-rich tissues such as hair, skin, and nails. These infections may lead to various forms of tinea and remain a significant health concern.
