Trichoscopy is the term coined for the use of dermatoscope for the evaluation of hair and scalp. Dermatologists involved in the management of hair and scalp disorders have discovered dermatoscope to be useful in their daily clinical practice, and expert studies suggest that dermoscopy may improve diagnostic capability beyond simple clinical inspection.

Summary Background and Objectives: Diagnosing cicatricial alopecia is challenging. Even with histology, a definitive diagnosis cannot always be made. Line‐field confocal optical coherence tomography (LC‐OCT), a non‐invasive imaging method with high resolution used in vivo, has proven helpful in diagnosing scarring alopecia.

A 69-year-old woman with invasive ductal breast cancer (BC) presented multiple asymptomatic alopecic areas of the scalp. Trichoscopy revealed peripheral black dots (BDs) and an atypical vascular pattern. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of BC metastases.

Establishment and validation of a hair fall atlas for Chinese men based on trichoscopy

A new hair fall atlas with 7 scales is established and validated and ready to publish as a new methodology. We observed good consistency between the dermatologists' grading (PCC >0.8), and a strong correlation shown between clinical scores and hair fall attributes based on image analysis (|p| > 0.8).
