Characteristics of fungaemia caused by Trichosporon species in South-Eastern Europe

open access: yesActa Microbiologica et Immunologica Hungarica
Abstract The incidence of fungaemia caused by rare yeasts, particularly Trichosporon species, is rising globally, posing diagnostic and therapeutic challenges—especially in immunocompromised patients.

Freshwater and Sediment Host Distinct Yet Overlapping Microeukaryotic Communities, With Sediment Communities Less Impacted by Treated Wastewater

open access: yesJournal of Eukaryotic Microbiology, Volume 73, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
ABSTRACT Freshwater and sediment environments host diverse microeukaryotic communities that differ in structure and composition, yet exhibit taxonomic overlap. Using 18S V9 rRNA gene sequencing, we compared communities from these habitats in controlled 10‐day mesocosm experiments, examining diversity, overlap, and responses to treated wastewater (TWW).

Trichosporon peritonitis following duodenal perforation

open access: yesThe Saudi Journal of Gastroenterology, 2010
Fungal peritonitis, which was once a rare entity, is becoming increasingly common due to various immunocompromised conditions. Candida species are considered the common cause of fungal peritonitis in most cases.

A Case Report on Post-haemodialysis Pyrexia Caused due to a Rare Species of Trichosporon

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research
Hypertension is a global health threat, which, in coexistence with chronic kidney disease, increases the associated health risks. Most of the vulnerable patients receive prophylactic therapeutic intervention for fungal infections, though, in a few ...

Production of Palmitoleic and Linoleic Acid in Oleaginous and Nonoleaginous Yeast Biomass

open access: yesInternational Journal of Analytical Chemistry, 2016
We investigated the possibility of utilizing both oleaginous yeast species accumulating large amounts of lipids (Yarrowia lipolytica, Rhodotorula glutinis, Trichosporon cutaneum, and Candida sp.) and traditional biotechnological nonoleaginous ones ...

Identification of Trichosporon yeast isolates from superficial infections in male patients from Central Brazil: an approach to the diversity of infections caused by this basidiomycete fungus [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
The genus Trichosporon are currently recognized as opportunistic pathogens capable of causing superficial "white piedra" infections and potentially fatal invasive diseases (Trichosporonosis). In this work, determine the agent Trichosporon spp.

The coenzyme Q system in strains of Trichosporon species and related organisms.

open access: yesThe Journal of General and Applied Microbiology, 1982
The Co-Q system was investigated in thirty-one strains of the species of the genus Trichosporon and related organisms. Three Co-Q systems comprised of Q-8, Q-9, and Q-10 were recognized in these organisms. The Q-8 system was found only in T. behrendii, a synonym of Pichia burtonii [Endomycopsis burtonii]. The Q-9 system was distributed in T. aculeatum,

A Review on Potentially Probiotic Yeasts From Traditional Fermented Products in Sub‐Saharan Africa for Sustainable Food Systems and Improved Health

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 4-30, January 2026.
This review focuses on the potential of sub‐Saharan African fermented food products as sources of probiotic yeasts for improved food security and health. ABSTRACT Research on probiotic yeasts from fermented products in sub‐Saharan Africa was limited in the past, but there is currently a surge in investigative efforts in this field.
