Successful treatment of breakthrough disseminated Trichosporon asahii fungemia in a patient with acute myeloid leukemia receiving itraconazole prophylaxis

open access: yesMedical Mycology Case Reports, 2018
We encountered a case of a 73-year-old man with acute myeloid leukemia who developed Trichosporon asahii systemic infection while on itraconazole prophylaxis during severe neutropenia. Cryptococcal antigen was useful for diagnosis.

Emerging pan-resistance in Trichosporon species:a case report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: Trichosporon species are ubiquitously spread and known to be part of the normal human flora of the skin and gastrointestinal tract. Trichosporon spp. normally cause superficial infections. However, in the past decade Trichosporon spp.

Trichosporon fungemia in a pediatric patient with acute lymphoblastic leukemia

open access: yesIDCases, 2015
Trichosporon fungemia is a life-threatening opportunistic infection that is increasing in frequency. Invasive disease occurs almost exclusively in immunocompromised hosts, particularly in neutropenic adults with hematological malignancies and uncommonly ...

Accurate Differentiation of Trichosporon Asahii and Trichosporon Asteroides from other Human Pathogenic Yeasts and Moulds by using Highly Specific Monoclonal Antibodies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Members of the genus Trichosporon are emerging opportunistic pathogens of humans, causing the invasive fungal disease trichosporonosis in immunocompromised patients, and summer-type hypersensitivity pneumonitis (SHP) in immunocompetent individuals ...

The epidemiology, genotypes, antifungal susceptibility of Trichosporon species, and the impact of voriconazole on Trichosporon fungemia patients

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2021
Background/purpose: Invasive Trichosporon infections are emerging, but association of different therapeutic management of Trichosporon fungemia and clinical outcomes were rarely reported. This study investigates the epidemiology, species distribution and

A Case Report on Post-haemodialysis Pyrexia Caused due to a Rare Species of Trichosporon

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research
Hypertension is a global health threat, which, in coexistence with chronic kidney disease, increases the associated health risks. Most of the vulnerable patients receive prophylactic therapeutic intervention for fungal infections, though, in a few ...

Epidemiological study of Trichosporon asahii infections over the past 23 years [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Trichosporon is a yeast-like basidiomycete, a conditional pathogenic fungus that is rare in the clinic but often causes fatal infections in immunocompromised individuals.

DISSEMINATED TRICHOSPORONOSIS INVOLVING LOBAR NEPHRONIA, MUSCULAR ABSCESSES AND CUTANEOUS PAPULES IN A PATIENT WITH ACUTE LYMPHOBLASTIC LEUKEMIA: A CASE REPORT

open access: yesJournal of Southeast Asian Medical Research
Trichosporon asahii has emerged as a severe life-threatening, opportunistic, systemic pathogen along with high mortality rates because of the increased use of cytotoxic or immunosuppressive drugs. We report a case of catheter-related T.

Exploring the resistance mechanisms in Trichosporon asahii: triazoles as the last defense for invasive trichosporonosis.

open access: yesFungal Genetics and Biology, 2019
Trichosporon asahii has recently been recognized as an emergent fungal pathogen able to cause invasive infections in neutropenic cancer patients as well as in critically ill patients submitted to invasive medical procedures and broad-spectrum antibiotic ...

Emergence of Trichosporon mycotoxinivorans (Apiotrichum mycotoxinivorans) invasive infections in Latin America [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We report the first two cases of Trichosporon mycotoxinivorans infections in Latin America. We also conducted a literature review and a microbiological investigation, including that of clinical and environmental isolates.
