SummaryA 20‐year‐old female patient presented with erythematous plaques on the nose which were progressively spreading to the trunk and the extremities, sometimes with erosions and scars. The patient was misdiagnosed as having seborrhoeic dermatitis and subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus.

Infection with Trichosporon spp was diagnosed in 2 cats. In one cat, infection consisted of a granulomatous dermatitis and was concurrent with disseminated lymphoblastic lymphosarcoma. In another cat, urinary cystitis caused by T beigelii was diagnosed.

We report the clinical and histological presentation of three cases, as well as a study of the prevalence of T. beigelii colonization of normal-looking skin in patients receiving intensive chemotherapy for cancer.

It often presents as fungemia, cutaneous lesions, pulmonary infiltrates, and azotemia. This systemic mycosis is often refractory to conventional antifungal therapy and is frequently fatal.
