Dose-dependent establishment of Trichuris suis larvae in Göttingen minipigs
Veterinary Parasitology, 2015Embryonated eggs of the pig whipworm Trichuris suis (TSOee) constitute the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) in a medicinal product explored in human clinical trials against several immune-mediated diseases. The measurement of TSO biological potency (hatchability and infectivity) is a requirement for the assessment of TSO's pharmacological potency

Trichuris suis Ova, Lecithin and Other Fancy Molecules
Digestive Diseases, 2014During the last 20 years, treatment paradigms as well as drugs used for IBD have changed significantly. However, there are still many unmet needs and a significant number of patients needing better therapy. It is obvious from this situation that many attempts have been made to implement new drugs and treatment algorithms including biologicals, new ...

Trichuris suis population dynamics following a primary experimental infection
Veterinary Parasitology, 2006Trichuris suis population kinetics was studied by experimentally infecting 40 pigs with 5000 T. suis infective eggs. Six pigs were sacrificed every 2 weeks from 1 to 9 weeks post-inoculation (p.i.) and the remaining 10 pigs were sacrificed 11 weeks p.i. to estimate worm burdens.

Studies were made on the relationship between Trichuris suis of the pig and T trichiura of man. Comparative morphological and developmental studies revealed differences in sizes of the eggs and infective first stage larvae, in the rate of development to the infective larval stage and in development within young pigs following experimental infection ...

Efficacy of oxantel tartrate against Trichuris suis in swine
Veterinary Parasitology, 1979Abstract Oxantel tartrate alone and in combination with the tartrate and citrate salts of pyrantel and morantel were evaluated by employing a series of controlled experiments. Artificial Trichuris suis infections were utilized for these investigations. Dichlorvos and parbendazole were included in some experiments for comparison.

Trichuris suis ova in inflammatory bowel disease.
Digestive diseases (Basel, Switzerland), 2014Some but not all epidemiological studies suggest that helminth infection in childhood protects against development of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in later years. In animal models of IBD, helminths have shown protective effects and changed bacterial flora in the gut.
