Europe's contribution to the evaluation of the use of systemic antimicrobials in the treatment of periodontitis

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract This narrative review celebrates Europe's contribution to the current knowledge on systemically administered antimicrobials in periodontal treatment. Periodontitis is the most frequent chronic noncommunicable human disease. It is caused by dysbiotic bacterial biofilms and is commonly treated with subgingival instrumentation.

Supra and subgingival application of antiseptics or antibiotics during periodontal therapy

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Periodontal diseases (gingivitis and periodontitis) are characterized by inflammatory processes which arise as a result of disruption of the balance in the oral ecosystem. According to the current S3 level clinical practice guidelines, therapy of patients with periodontitis involves a stepwise approach that includes the control of the patient ...

Exposure to triclosan among the Canadian population: Results of the Canadian Health Measures Survey (2009–2013)

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2019
Triclosan is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial additive in consumer products that has been detected in human populations globally. The purpose of this study was to assess triclosan exposure among the Canadian population using urinary triclosan as a ...

Cross-sectional associations between urinary triclosan and serum thyroid function biomarker concentrations in women

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2019
Introduction: Exposure to the antimicrobial agent triclosan is ubiquitous. Research in animals shows that triclosan can cause decreases in thyroxine concentrations.

Mitochondrial uncoupler triclosan induces vasorelaxation of rat arteries

open access: yesActa Pharmaceutica Sinica B, 2017
Our previous studies found that mitochondrial uncouplers induced vasodilation. Triclosan, the broad spectrum antibacterial agent, is the active ingredient in soaps and toothpastes.

Determining the distribution of triclosan and methyl triclosan in estuarine settings [PDF]

open access: yesChemosphere, 2014
We have developed a method for the analysis of two sewage-derived contaminants: triclosan (TCS), an antibacterial agent, and methyl triclosan (MTCS), a TCS metabolite. For solid samples (4 g), extraction and cleanup were integrated into the same step using pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) with in-cell-clean-up (1g of florisil).

Potential Combinatory Effect of Cannabidiol and Triclosan Incorporated into Sustained Release Delivery System against Oral Candidiasis

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2022
Candida albicans is a common fungal pathogen. Biofilm formation on various surfaces is an important determinant of C. albicans pathogenicity. Our previous results demonstrated the high potential of cannabidiol (CBD) to affect C. albicans biofilms.

Effect Biomarkers of the Widespread Antimicrobial Triclosan in a Marine Model Diatom

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2022
The present-day COVID-19 pandemic has led to the increasing daily use of antimicrobials worldwide. Triclosan is a manmade disinfectant chemical used in several consumer healthcare products, and thus frequently detected in surface waters.

Triclosan-coated sutures to reduce surgical site infection in abdominal gastrointestinal surgery: A meta-analysis and systematic review

open access: yesSurgery Open Science, 2023
Background: Previous randomized trials evaluated the effectiveness of triclosan-coated sutures for fascial closure in preventing surgical site infection (SSI). However, available evidence remains still inconclusive. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness
