Bicycles and Tricycles

Scientific American, 1884
I AM obliged to Mr. Housman for pointing out a slip of expression in my review of Mr. Sharp's book. I had not confused the ratio of the I's for the ratio of the D's, but merely inadvertently used the word “stiffness” in its colloquial and more extended sense, so to include resistance to forces which would seriously bend or damage, as well as to those ...

Tricyclic Antidepressant Overdose

Pediatric Clinics of North America, 1986
Overdose of a tricyclic antidepressant is a serious and all-too-frequent occurrence. The diagnosis must be considered in known or suspected overdoses, and signs such as a dry axilla, tachycardia, and wide QRS must be specifically sought. Management depends upon support of vital functions and a thorough understanding of the pharmacology of the drug ...

Exercise tricycle for paraplegics

Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, 1998
The work describes a tricycle that can be used by paraplegics without assistance. Paraplegics can get on and off the tricycle independently, using hydraulic adjustment of the saddle height. The two rear wheels can be swivelled with adjustable hydraulic damping, which avoids the stability problems of a standard tricycle when riding around bends.

Although difficulty in correlating plasma levels of tricyclic antidepressants with therapeutic outcome has been reported, therapeutic monitoring can be helpful in the management of selected depressed patients. The greater toxic potential of lithium is a pressing and clear indication for therapeutic monitoring in manic patients.

Tricyclic antidepressant overdose

Journal of the American College of Emergency Physicians, 1979
First introduced in the early 1960s, tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) have been seen increasingly in overdoses, accounting for 10% to 20% of all cases. 1-5 This is not surprising, for amitriptyline was the 29th most frequently prescribed drug in the United States in 1974.

The Efficacy of Tricyclic Antidepressants

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1988
To the Editor. — In the July 15 issue of JAMA , Dr Renshaw 1 presents a case discussion of the use of a tricyclic antidepressant in treating a young woman with interstitial cystitis and depression. While I found the case interesting, I take issue with the assumption that the presence of anticholinergic side effects means a therapeutic blood level has ...
