U Hrvatskoj su djeteline, odmah nakon lucerne, značajne krmne leguminoze. Rod Trifolium u svijetu obuhvaća 250 jednogodišnjih ili višegodišnjih vrsta djetelina, a u Europi je zabilježeno 99 vrsta. U Hrvatskoj postoji 76 vrsta djetelina.
