Industrial accidents triggered by lightning

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2010
Natural disasters can cause major accidents in chemical facilities where they can lead to the release of hazardous materials which in turn can result in fires, explosions or toxic dispersion. Lightning strikes are the most frequent cause of major accidents triggered by natural events.

Laser-triggered lightning

SPIE Proceedings, 1998
A series of field experiments for laser triggered lightning have been carried out targeting the winter thunderstorms in Fukui, Japan. A combination of a 2 kJ CO 2 laser system, a 600 J Nd-glass laser and a 4th harmonics 100 mJ YAG laser was used to produce a plasma channel which are effective to trigger and guide an electrical leader from the ...

Characteristics of triggered lightning during Shandong artificial triggering lightning experiment (SHATLE)

Atmospheric Research, 2009
A bstract Shandong artificial triggering lightning experiment (SHATLE) has been continuously conducted at Binzhou, Shandong since the summer of 2005. Eight negative lightning flashes including 32 return strokes were successfully triggered from 2005 to 2007 during the passage of 5 mesoscale convective systems.
