This review is the first attempt at systematization of the literature data on the structures and activities of triglyceride-lowering agents which used in medical practice or are in development. The effects and mechanisms of action of statins, squalene synthase inhibitors, fibrates, PPARα and PPARα/γ agonists, nicotinic acid, omega-3 fatty acids and ...

Xenobiotic triglyceride formation
Xenobiotica, 19801. When 3-phenoxy[14C]benzoic acid was dosed orally (0.76 mg/kg) to rats, 1--3% of the administered radioactivity was found in the skin four days after dosing. Approximately 90% of this residue was unchanged 3-phenoxybenzoate, 10% was a neutral compound. 2. The residue in the skins of rats dosed with 193 mg of 3-phenoxybenzoic acid over 7 days (c.

Elevated cholesterol levels are clearly independently associated with adverse cardiovascular events. Another class of lipid particles, triglycerides, is also abundant in the human body and has been found in atherosclerotic plaques. Recent observational studies have demonstrated an association between elevated triglyceride levels and increased risk for ...

Nicotinic acid and clofibrate derivatives are the main triglyceride-metabolism-affecting drugs. Nicotinic acid and its derivatives block adipose tissue lipolysis thus reducing the FFA flux of free fatty acids to the liver and the synthesis of very-low-density lipoproteins (VLDL). VLDL removal rate is also enhanced.
