New definitions of exponential, hyperbolic and trigonometric functions on time scales
We propose two new definitions of the exponential function on time scales. The first definition is based on the Cayley transformation while the second one is a natural extension of exact discretizations.

A simple proof of the transcendence of the trigonometric functions [PDF]
In this note, we give a simple proof that the values of the trigonometric functions at any nonzero rational number are transcendental numbers.

The polarization change of an arbitrarily polarized wave in an optically anisotropic medium is discussed, focusing on cases where the refractive index, the extinction coefficient, and the two eigenmodes are degenerated. The polarization converges to that of the eigenmode with the lowest extinction coefficient, except when the extinction coefficients ...

Estimating monthly labour force figures during the COVID‐19 pandemic in the Netherlands
Abstract Official monthly statistics about the Dutch labour force are based on the Dutch Labour Force Survey (LFS). The LFS is a continuously conducted survey that is designed as a rotating panel design. Data collection among selected households is based on a mixed‐mode design that uses web interviewing, telephone interviewing and face‐to‐face ...

Fundamental trigonometric interpolation and approximating polynomials and splines [PDF]
The paper deals with two fundamental types of trigonometric polynomials and splines on uniform grids, which allow us to construct interpolation approximations that depend linearly on the values of the interpolated function. Fundamental on the same grids are trigonometric LS polynomials and LS splines, which allow us to construct the approximation of ...

Windowed Green function method for wave scattering by periodic arrays of 2D obstacles
Abstract This paper introduces a novel boundary integral equation (BIE) method for the numerical solution of problems of planewave scattering by periodic line arrays of two‐dimensional penetrable obstacles. Our approach is built upon a direct BIE formulation that leverages the simplicity of the free‐space Green function but in turn entails evaluation ...

Statistical Complexity of Quantum Learning
The statistical performance of quantum learning is investigated as a function of the number of training data N$N$, and of the number of copies available for each quantum state in the training and testing data sets, respectively S$S$ and V$V$. Indeed, the biggest difference in quantum learning comes from the destructive nature of quantum measurements ...
