In humans, prolonged fasting profoundly remodels the plasma metabolome while maintaining stable levels of BCAA and FGF21. Upon refeeding, plasma BCAAs (valine, isoleucine, and leucine) decline, reflecting tissue uptake and coinciding with a surge in FGF21, independent of insulin and glucose.
