Quality validation of platelets obtained from the Haemonetics and Trima Accel automated blood-collection systems [PDF]

open access: yesTransfusion Clinique et Biologique, 2020
Abstract Background: Platelet transfusion is required to treat haemo-oncology or trauma patients. Platelet apheresis (PPH) performed with apheresis equipment has increased rapidly in recent years. Leucocyte-reduced platelet apheresis (LRPH) can reduce the risk of platelet refractoriness and febrile nonhemolytic transfusion reactions (FNHTRs ...

Harvesting COVID convalescent plasma using latest-generation apheresis systems: Analyzing factors associated with donor, machine, and manufactured product

open access: yesGlobal Journal of Transfusion Medicine, 2021
Background and Objectives: Transfusion of COVID convalescent plasma (CCP) has been found to be a useful and logistically feasible therapeutic strategy in COVID-19.

Enolase 1 of Candida albicans binds human CD4+ T cells and modulates naïve and memory responses

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, Volume 53, Issue 11, November 2023., 2023
Enolase 1 (Eno1) from Candida albicans binds human CD4 by inducing LCK phosphorylation. Naïve CD4+ T‐cell responses are skewed toward Th2 and antigenic memory responses inhibited by Eno1, but it does not interfere with the activation of p41/Crf1‐TCR‐transgenic T cells developed for therapeutic purposes.

Adverse Events Associated with Plateletpheresis: A Tertiary Care Hospital Experience in Southern India [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2019
Introduction: Platelet transfusions play a major role in preventing major haemorrhage and improve survival in severe thrombocytopenic patients. Generally, apheresis procedures are well tolerated.

The impact of donor biological variation on the quality and function of cold‐stored platelets

open access: yesVox Sanguinis, Volume 118, Issue 9, Page 730-737, September 2023., 2023
Abstract Background and Objectives Room temperature‐stored platelets (RTPs) maximize platelet viability but limit shelf life. The aims of this study were to investigate the impact of donor variability on cold‐stored platelets (CSPs) and RTP, to determine whether RTP quality markers are appropriate for CSP.

INTERFACEAMENTO BIDIRECIONAL: UM AVANÇO CRUCIAL NA PREVENÇÃO DE ERROS OPERACIONAIS NA COLETA DE CONCENTRADOS DE PLAQUETAS POR AFÉRESE

open access: yesHematology, Transfusion and Cell Therapy, 2023
Objetivos: Descrever a prevalência dos principais erros operacionais relacionados à inserção de dados de doadores em equipamentos para coletas de concentrados de plaquetas por aférese antes e depois da implantação do interfaceamento bidirecional de dados.

Stable SARS-CoV-2 antibody levels and functionality in serum and COVID-19 convalescent plasma after long-term storage. [PDF]

open access: yesVox Sang
Abstract Background and Objectives The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic necessitated various therapeutic approaches, including convalescent plasma (CP) administration. The administration timing of COVID‐19 CP (CCP), antibody specificity and quantity were identified as crucial factors for therapeutic success.

Evidence of meaningful levels of Trypanosoma cruzi in platelet concentrates from seropositive blood. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: According to the reported cases of transfusion-acquired Trypanosoma cruzi infection, the risk of T. cruzi transfusion transmission appears to be higher with platelet (PLT) products than with other blood components.

Deciphering the role of platelets in severe allergy by an integrative omics approach

open access: yesAllergy, Volume 78, Issue 5, Page 1319-1332, May 2023., 2023
This study analyzes the lipidomic and transcriptomic profile of platelets in patients with mild and severe allergy. The lipidomic profile of platelets form severe allergic patients shows high levels of ceramides, phosphoinositols, phosphocholines, and sphingomyelins and low levels of arachidonic acid.
