Kirk Broders Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences, COLSA, travels to Mexico [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
I was able to make my first trip to central Mexico in August 2014, in part due to assistance from the CIE Development Grant, in order to conduct research and develop a collaborative network with agricultural scientists in Mexico. The main purpose of the

Transient Terahertz Oscillations During Photoinduced Polarization Topology Reconfiguration in Ferroelectric Superlattices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Terahertz resonances in crystalline heterostructures could close a spectral gap between conventional electronics and photonics while opening new windows on non‐equilibrium lattice dynamics. Femtosecond optical screening of the depolarization field in epitaxial PbTiO3/SrTiO3 superlattices launches a collective polar mode that oscillates near 1 THz and ...

Young children's perspectives of time: New directions for co‐constructing understandings of quality in ECEC

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Children's relationship with time in preschools is an under‐researched area. Young children rarely know how to measure time using a clock, but their experiences of time may contribute to understanding children's well‐being and debates about quality in preschools.

Achieving superior strength-ductility balance via heterogeneous structure and successive TWIP+TRIP effects in medium Mn steel

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
In the present work, the medium Mn steel with a strength - ductility product of 49.5 GPa·% was fabricated by a hot rolling, quenching and intercritical annealing process.

The Influence of Sample Preparation on the Quantitative Analysis of the Volume Fraction of Martensite Formed in a 304l Trip Steel [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2015
The metastable 304L austenitic stainless steels are susceptible to phase transformation induced by plastic deformation. The traditional metallographic preparation, via mechanical methods, introduces superficial plastic deformation from grinding and ...

The Role of Probe Attenuation in the Time-Domain Reflectometry Characterization of Dielectrics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The influence of the measurement setup on the estimation of dielectric permittivity spectra from time-domain reflectometry (TDR) responses is investigated.

A Rational Optimization Approach for the Development of a Multiplexed Lateral Flow Immunoassay: Detection of Nonepithelial Ovarian Cancer Markers in Human Serum

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study outlines the developmental pipeline of a multiplexed nanozyme‐based lateral flow immunoassay for the purpose of ovarian germ cell tumor detection. It demonstrates the application of a design of experiments optimization approach for nanozyme probe conjugate development.

Synergistic enhancement of strength and ductility in TRIP lean duplex stainless steel through cyclic pre-deformation

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
In this study, a transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) lean duplex stainless steel (LDSS) was strengthened by cyclic plastic deformation with small strain amplitudes (εa).

TESTING FOR DIFFERENTIAL EFFECTS OF FOREST FIRES ON HIKING AND MOUNTAIN BIKING DEMAND AND BENEFITS [PDF]

open access: yes
Surveys of visitors to National Forests in Colorado were conducted to determine whether different fire ages and presence of crown fires have different effects on hiking and mountain biking recreation visits and benefits. Actual and intended behavior data

Current‐Driven Nonreciprocal Response of Nonequilibrium Skyrmions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A skyrmion holds great promise for spintronic applications owing to its intrinsic topological stability and high mobility under ultra‐low current excitation. Here, by means of in situ electron microscopy, we demonstrate a skyrmion diode effect and the associated current‐driven nonreciprocal skyrmion dynamics in a designed FeGe‐based microdevice.
