A water extract of the fungus Poria obliqua has been shown to possess tumor-inhibiting activity against two test tumors. Two triterpene alcohols were isolated from the hexane extract, one of which was identified as lanosterol. The second, named obliquol, C30H50O2, was shown to have two hydroxyl groups and two double bonds, one of which is inert to ...

Triterpenes and triterpene glycosides from the leaves of Ilex rotunda
Phytochemistry, 1993Abstract Two new triterpenes, ilexolic acid A and B, and seven new saponins, ilexosides XXXIII–XXXIX, together with the known saponin rotungenoside were isolated from the fresh leaves of Ilex rotunda , and their structures elucidated on the basis of chemical and physicochemical evidence.

Triterpenoids belong to a large and structurally diverse class of natural products which occur abundantly in plant kingdom, especially in higher plants in cases of pentacyclic and tetracyclic triterpenes, while mono-, bi-, and tricyclic triterpenes are prevalent in ferns and nonflowering lower plants (cryptogams).

THE tetracyclic triterpene alcohol basseol, which readily cyclizes to give β-amyrenol1, which in its turn is related to erythrodiol, gypsogenin and hederagenin2, on dehydrogenation with selenium gives as major product a phenanthrene homologue, m.p. 125° (Found: C, 92.7 ; H, 7.2.

Triterpenes fromMucuna birdwoodiana
Phytochemistry, 1991Methanolic extracts of the stalks of Mucuna birdwoodiana on acid hydrolysis and subsequent methylation with diazomethane provided four triterpene sapogenols. On the other hand, investigation of glycosides after methylation of the same extract led to the isolation of four triterpene glycosides.

Biotransformation of triterpenes
Process Biochemistry, 2011Triterpenes are a versatile group of biologically active ingredients present in several phytoextracts. They often occur as glycoconjugates with a distinct bioactivity from their aglycone counterparts. Deglycation of triterpenes can be performed by enzymatic and chemical reactions, whereas biotransformation is generally more specific and occurs without ...

Triterpenes from Licania licaniaeflora
Fitoterapia, 2001Nine triterpenoids with lupane, oleanane, and ursane skeleton have been isolated and characterized from the leaves of Licania licaniaeflora. The structural identification was based on (1)H and (13)C-NMR spectral data.

Triterpenes and Triterpene Esters from Lactuca Saligna
International Journal of Pharmacognosy, 1992AbstractInvestigation of Lactuca saligna aerial parts revealed the presence of hexacosan-1–01. germanicol, taraxasterol and moretenol, as well as their acetate derivatives and fatty acid esters. Identification was performed through physical, chemical and spectroscopic methods.

The Chemistry of the Triterpenes
Annual Review of Biochemistry, 1945Because of the large amount of material that has been published since the last review of "The Terpenes, Saponins, and Closely Related Substances" (1) , the present review has been limited to the triter penes. Even for this group of compounds, all of the detailed chemistry on which the arguments for structure are based will not be given but only a ...
