Tritiation of Animals from Tritiated Water
Radiation Research, 1972Mice were given tritiated water (HTO) to drink for 40-147 days at a specific activity of 94 ± 4.8 μCi/ml (mean ± SD). Tissue HTO was 77.8 ± 10.1 μCi/ml in liver, testis and intestinal mucosa, reflecting the input of H2 O in unlabeled food and metabolic H2 O. Bound T specific activity was 15.8 ± 6.0 μCi/g dry matter.

American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1971Data on an accidental intake of tritium which resulted in about 400 mCi of tritium distributed throughout the body water of one man is presented. The urinary excretion and loss of tritium from blood were followed for a period of time which allowed a precise estimate of dose to blood and body tissues to be calculated.

Comparative Metabolism of Tritiated Water by Mammals
Journal of Cellular and Comparative Physiology, 1962Tritiated water was used to measure the volume and turnover of exchangeable body water in 7 species of adult mammals. Using these parameters, the daily turnover of exchangeable body water was calculated for each species. Body water content was about 60% of body weight for all species.
