In a twin study, we have shown that wild emmer wheat, Triticum dicoccoides, the progenitor of all cultivated wheats, harbours important genetic variation (Vg) in photosynthetic characteristics. This Vg resides within and between populations and ecogeographical regions in Israel, which is the center of origin and diversity of wild emmer wheat.

Adaptive Genetic Differentiation and Solar Radiation in Wild Emmer Wheat, Triticum dicoccoides
Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, 2018Microgeographic studies of molecular markers could reveal the nature and dynamics of genetic diversity and the evolutionary driving forces shaping evolution. The microclimatic genetic divergence of wild emmer wheat associated with solar radiation was investigated, in the present study, using multiple types of molecular markers including allozyme ...

Wild Emmer, Triticum dicoccoides,Wheat Progenitor: Origin and Evolution
2002Genetic and morphological evidence clearly indicates that the cultivated tetraploid turgidum wheats (both hulled dicoccum forms and free threshing durum varieties) are closely related to the wild wheat that is native to the Near East and traditionally called T.

Diversity in 20 microsatellite loci of wild emmer wheat, Triticum dicoccoides, was examined in 15 populations (135 genotypes) representing a wide range of ecological conditions of soil, temperature, and water availability, in Israel and Turkey. An extensive amount of diversity at microsatellite loci was observed despite the predominantly selfing nature

Characterization of wild emmer wheat Triticum dicoccoides germplasm for vernalization alleles
Journal of Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2014The flowering in winter and wild wheats is induced by extended exposure to cold temperatures, a process called vernalization while spring wheats do not have any such requirement. In the present study, we analyzed 45 accessions of wild emmer wheat T. dicoccoides for the allelic composition of the vernalization genes at VRN-A1 and VRN-B1 loci. Three gene

Aim. The aim of our study was to characterize genotypes with gene Gpc-B1 from T. turgidum ssp. dicoccoides in the genome of bread winter wheat pedigrees T. aestivum cv. Kuyalnyk by the finding of recombination between 6B chromosomes of T. aestivum and T. turgidum ssp. dicoccoides, and to detect allelic gene states that cause solid grain.

RAPD polymorphism of wild emmer wheat populations, Triticum dicoccoides, in Israel
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1999Genetic diversity in random amplified polymorphic DNAs (RAPDs) was studied in 110 genotypes of the tetraploid wild progenitor of wheat, Triticum dicoccoides, from 11 populations sampled in Israel and Turkey. Our results show high level of diversity of RAPD markers in wild wheat populations in Israel.

Triticum turgidum L. var. dicoccoides (wild emmer) is an important genetic resource for increasing the protein content of common wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Many studies have shown that the presence or absence of bands in sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide (SDS-PAGE) electrophoregrams of wheat storage proteins to be of a purely genetic character ...

Chlorotoluron is a selective phenylurea herbicide widely used for broad-leaved and annual grass weed control in cereals. Variation in the response to chlorotoluron (CT) was found in both hexaploid bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and wild tetraploid wheat (Triticum dicoccoides KöRN.).

GENETIC RESOURCES OF WILD EMMER, TRITICUM DICOCCOIDES, FOR WHEAT IMPROVEMENT IN THE THIRD MILLENNIUM
Israel Journal of Plant Sciences, 2001The genetic resources and diversities of wild emmer wheat, Triticum dicoccoides, the progenitor of almost all cultivated wheats, are reviewed, primarily based on the research program at the Institute of Evolution, University of Haifa, Israel, during the period 19792000.
