Wide variation in hydraulic safety margins across and within southern Amazon forests

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 5, May 2026.
Site‐specific conditions and species identity were the main drivers of variation in Ψdry and HSM50 in southern Amazonian trees, but played a weaker role in explaining Ψ50. Ψpredawn strongly predicted HSM50. Across the Amazon, Ψ50_CWM and Ψdry_CWM became more negative with increasing MCWD, whereas HSM50_CWM showed no significant relationship with MCWD ...

Assessing Aerosol Wet Removal Efficiency in Conventional and Multiscale Modeling Framework Configurations of the Community Earth System Model

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 7, 16 April 2026.
Abstract Aerosol particles play a crucial role in the global climate by absorbing and scattering radiation and influencing cloud properties. This study explores the role of resolved convection on precipitation and subsequent removal by wet deposition of aerosol in the Community Earth System Model (CESM2.1.0) by comparing two configurations with ...

Sea surface temperature retrieval using TRMM microwave imager satellite data in the South China Sea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The passive microwave TRMM Microwave Imager (TMI) sensor which is one of the payloads of the Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM) satellite was launched in 1997 by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and National Space ...

EVALUATION OF KuPR ALGORITHM IN MATCHUP CASES OF GPM AND TRMM

open access: yesJournal of Japan Society of Civil Engineers, Ser. B1 (Hydraulic Engineering), 2015
GPM Core Observatory satellite has been in operation since February, 2014. Before the GPM operation started, TRMM had observed the rain rate in tropical regions. GPM's KuPR is a successor of TRMM/PR, and both have the same design [1]. However, differences have been confirmed in their estimates for the same rainfall. Therefore, we focus on the retrieval

Observation‐Informed Machine Learning Convective Scheme: A New Training Strategy

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 7, 16 April 2026.
Abstract Machine learning (ML)‐based schemes face challenges in online stability and biases because of the accumulated errors during long‐term integrations. Here, we propose a new ML training strategy for the convection process that provides online corrections to tendencies in a more systematic way with significant improvements in stability and bias ...

Evaluation of TRMM and ECMWF Data for Drought Time Monitoring (Case Study: Kurdistan Province) [PDF]

open access: yesعلوم آب و خاک, 2023
Studying the effects of drought in mountainous areas is facing problems due to the inappropriate distribution of stations, the lack of long-term data, and areas lacking statistics.

Hydrologic evaluation of satellite precipitation products over a mid-size basin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Since the past three decades a great deal of effort is devoted to development of satellite-based precipitation retrieval algorithms. More recently, several satellite-based precipitation products have emerged that provide uninterrupted precipitation time ...

A Two‐Dimensional Deep Learning Scheme With One Predicator Only to Parametrize Global Lightning

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 7, 16 April 2026.
Abstract Lightning simulation has long posed significant challenges. This study presents a novel two‐dimensional artificial intelligence‐based global lightning scheme that uses a single predictor, convective available potential energy (CAPE). The new scheme significantly improves global lightning simulation performance, achieving a determination ...

MSWEP : 3-hourly 0.25° global gridded precipitation (1979-2015) by merging gauge, satellite, and reanalysis data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Current global precipitation (P) datasets do not take full advantage of the complementary nature of satellite and reanalysis data. Here, we present Multi-Source Weighted-Ensemble Precipitation (MSWEP) version 1.1, a global P dataset for the period 1979 ...

Incorporating the TRMM dataset into the GPM mission data suite [PDF]

open access: yes2016 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2016
In June 2015 the TRMM satellite came to its end. The 17+ year of mission data that it provided has proven a valuable asset to a variety of science communities. This 17+ year data set does not, however, stagnate with the end of the mission itself. NASA/JAXA intend to integrate the TRMM data set into the data suite of the GPM mission.
