Human hunters are no substitute for vanishing apex predators
Our study reveals that human hunters fail to replicate the collective and individual ecological functions of natural apex predators in sustaining biodiversity and promoting stable spatial patterns. These insights are vital for rethinking predator conservation and wildlife management in human‐dominated landscapes.

Across a grassland food web, multitrophic stability was most closely associated with herbivore species asynchrony. By identifying herbivores as a key source of temporal buffering between plants and predators, this study shows that intermediate consumers can play a central role in stabilizing the complex food web.

Boldness and niche width structure spatial interactions in a natural rodent community
We show that individual behavioural differences (boldness) structure spatial encounter patterns within a natural multi‐species community. By linking personality to space use and interaction structure, our study demonstrates how intraspecific variation can scale up to shape community‐level processes.

We studied oviposition site selection in a leaf‐mining moth (Stigmella sorbi) on rowan trees (Sorbus aucuparia) in northwestern Russia, assessing larval performance across different shoot types, leaf positions, and leaflets. Larval survival was highest on long vegetative shoots, yet females showed no preference for these optimal sites.

Moderate retention forestry creates structurally sharp forest edges that act as ecological filters, shaping orientation‐specific activity of ground‐dwelling arthropods. Using drift‐fence pitfall traps, we show that activity aligned with ecotones is more frequent than activity across forest–clearcut boundaries, particularly among detritivores.
