Identification of Distinct Interacting Proteins of Giardia lamblia Centrins Using Yeast Two‐Hybrid Assays

open access: yesJournal of Eukaryotic Microbiology, Volume 73, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
ABSTRACT Giardia lamblia, a protozoan parasite that causes diarrhea in humans, contains two centrins implicated in cellular morphology and cell division. To identify proteins interacting with each G. lamblia centrin (GlCent), we performed a yeast two‐hybrid assay.

EhVps23, an ESCRT-I Member, Is a Key Factor in Secretion, Motility, Phagocytosis and Tissue Invasion by Entamoeba histolytica

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2022
The EhVps23 protein, an orthologue of the yeast Vps23 and the mammalian TSG101 proteins, is the single member of the ESCRT-I complex of Entamoeba histolytica identified and characterized until now.

Co(II), Cu(II), and Ni(II) Coordination Complexes: Synthesis, Characterization, Experimental, and Computational Study on Potential Antiplasmodial Activity

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 12, 26 June 2026.
Four isostructural complexes (C1–C4) derived from 2‐(tert‐butoxy)‐6‐(1H‐imidazol‐1‐yl)pyridine with axial halides exhibit octahedral trans M(L)4X2 geometries, confirmed by X‐ray diffraction. They feature a discrete 1,6M7−1 topology, identified using ToposPro analysis.

Genome‐Guided Discovery of Antimalarial 4‐Amino‐2,4‐Pentadienoate‐Containing Cyclolipodepsipeptides

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 18, 27 April 2026.
Halogenated and glycosylated 4‐amino‐2,4‐pentadienoate‐containing cyclolipodepsipeptides (APD‐CLDs) exhibit potent antiplasmodial activity (IC50 = 25–161 nM) against drug‐sensitive and resistant Plasmodium falciparum strains. ABSTRACT 4‐Amino‐2,4‐pentadienoate‐containing cyclolipodepsipeptides (APD‐CLDs) represent a structurally distinctive family of ...

Adhesion of Entamoeba histolytica trophozoites to human erythrocytes [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1982
To understand the mechanism of Entamoeba histolytica adhesion, we characterized the binding of trophozoites to human erythrocytes (RBC) in suspension by measuring the kinetics of amoeba-RBC complex formation. Adhesion was very efficient, since most of the amoebae were complexed with RBC after only 5 min at 37 degrees C in mixtures containing 10(4 ...

Hemoglobin Digestion Genes Are Conserved in Lizard‐Infective Plasmodium Species With Different Host Cellular Niches

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Despite their evolutionary relatedness to malaria parasites that infect humans, wildlife Plasmodium—particularly those that infect birds and lizards—are understudied, leaving their vast genetic diversity to be explored. By assembling parasite transcriptomes from Plasmodium‐infected lizard blood, we provide the first evidence that lizard‐infective ...

Protease activity in Giardia duodenalis trophozoites of axenic strains isolated from symptomatic and asymptomatic patients

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2003
We have examined by gelatin-SDS-PAGE the protease activity in cell lysates of Giardia duodenalis trophozoites of two axenic strains isolated in Brazil from a symptomatic patient (BTU-11) and an asymptomatic carrier (BTU-10), and the reference strain ...

Intestinal Parasitic Infections and Associated Factors Among Psychiatric Patients at Debre Tabor Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Northwest Ethiopia: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Intestinal parasitic infections pose significant public health challenges in developing countries. They are major concerns in rehabilitation centers for individuals with mental disabilities. However, little attention has been given to preventing these infections among the mentally disabled groups.

IN VITRO SUSCEPTIBILITY OF GIARDIA LAMBLIA TO VONOPRAZAN [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology
Vonoprazan (Vono) is used to manage duodenal and gastric ulcers, reflux esophagitis, and prevention relapse. Its' a mechanism of action similar to proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), with a more rapid and prolonged acid-suppressive action, unaffected by diet ...
