Tropical and Subtropical Fruits

open access: yes, 2014
Production and commercialization of tropical and subtropical fruits have strongly increased in the last decade, particularly in countries with subtropical and Mediterranean climates, with important developmental advances due to significant research efforts, including control of flowering, intensive cultivation systems and use of ...

The Impact of Horizontal Resolution on Surface Irradiance Over Land in km‐Scale Earth System Models

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 3, 16 February 2026.
Abstract Storm‐resolving global climate models, approaching km‐scale grid spacings, are slowly emerging. With increasing horizontal resolution, we expect improvements in the surface radiation budget because (a) synoptic variability may be better represented, (b) convective systems are better resolved, and (c) landscape heterogeneity is represented in ...

Revisiting the Andean butterfly Eryphanis zolvizora group (Lepidoptera, Nymphalidae) : one or several species? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Eryphanis zolvizora (Hewitson, 1877) is a rare Andean endemic butterfly, described from Bolivia, which has been historically classified either as a unique species, or as part of a group of three allopatric species from Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia.

Carbonate sedimentology: An evolved discipline

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Although admired and examined since antiquity, carbonate sediment and rock research really began with Charles Darwin who, during a discovery phase, studied, documented and interpreted their nature in the mid‐19th century. The modern discipline, however, really began after World War II and evolved in two distinct phases.

Ephemeropteran and Trichopteran Assemblages Vary Across a Subtropical Rainforest Altitudinal Gradient: Useful Indicators for Climate Change

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
This figure provides the elevation distribution of Trichoptera and Ephemeroptera across the elevational gradient and clearly shows how specific morphospecies can be used as indicators. ABSTRACT The subtropical rainforests of eastern Australia are expected to be greatly affected by climate change, with several studies predicting an upward shift in ...

Urban landscapes as ecological filters: Insights from a Neotropical bird assemblage

open access: yesEcology, Volume 107, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract To contribute to our growing understanding of the urban ecological filtering process in highly biodiverse regions, we conducted a study on bird species assemblages across the landscape of Medellín and its surrounding areas in the Colombian Andes.

Palaeoglacier reconstruction and dynamics of Cordillera Vilcanota in the tropical high Peruvian Andes

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 2, February 2026.
We provide a geomorphological analysis of Cordillera Vilcanota and use morphostratigraphic principles to reconstruct palaeo icefield extent and palaeoglacier readvances, likely during the Antarctic Cold Reversal and Younger Dryas. We find evidence of temperate and polythermal ice margins, with limited glaciofluvial landform generation.
