Characterising City Scale Heat Climatology for Australian Climate Zones

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
The Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect in Australian cities peaks at night, intensifying under dry conditions, clear skies, increased solar radiation, and low wind speeds. Long‐term observations show that nighttime temperatures in major cities have warmed faster than their rural surroundings and future climate projections fail to capture this disparity ...

Surface and Tropospheric Climatic Trends in the Galápagos Archipelago Based on the Galápagos Archipelago Refined Analysis Dataset

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
The Galápagos Archipelago's near‐surface climate is primarily influenced by interannual El Niño‐Southern Oscillation variability, with no statistical evidence for long‐term trends in air temperature, humidity, or precipitation. While tropospheric warming and increased atmospheric stability are observed, these trends are largely decoupled from near ...

Spatial and Temporal Patterns of Extreme Hourly Rainfall in the Hawaiian Islands

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
The extreme rainfall trends in Hawaiʻi were revealed by hourly rainfall data: Across islands, Kauaʻi and Hawaiʻi Island had larger events at a return period. Annual maximum series of 15 gauges showed significant positive trends. While extreme rainfall trends show increases or decreases regionally, the trends varied with rainfall duration.

Long‐Term Analysis of Winter Wheat Yield and Climatic Influences in Ukraine

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Long‐term field data (1968–2024) show that winter wheat yields in central Ukraine increased despite warming, but yield stability declined. Rising temperatures, more frequent soil moisture droughts and shortened winter calm increasingly limit productivity.

Machine Learning‐Based Correction of Reanalysis Surface Radiation Fluxes Using Ground‐Measured Data in the Southern Brazilian Pampa Biome

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that ERA5 provides more accurate surface radiation flux estimates than MERRA2 across the Southern Brazilian Pampa. Machine learning models, particularly Random Forest, further improved the precision of reanalysis data for climate applications.
