ABSTRACT Rationale Vehicular traffic is a major source of anthropogenic greenhouse gases in megacities; however, real‐world constraints on vehicle‐derived N2O emissions and their isotopic characteristics remain limited. Methods Air samples were collected from three tunnels and urban background sites (a university campus and mountain) in Seoul, South ...

Classification of tropospheric ozone profiles over Johannesburg based on mozaic aircraft data [PDF]
Each ozone profile is a unique response to the photochemical and dynamic processes operating in the troposphere and hence is critical to our understanding of processes and their relative contributions to the tropospheric ozone budget.

Monthly averaged tropospheric ozone residual (TOR) data from TOMS and OMI during the period 1979–2009 are used to study the spatial distribution of tropospheric column ozone within the landmass of the Indian subcontinent, the Tibetan plateau in the north

Derived from measurements it has been concluded that in the last hundred years the ground-based ozone concentration has risen by about a factor of two. Models also show a doubling of the tropospheric ozone content due to human activities. It is very likely that mean ozone concentration will further increase.

Abstract Perchlorate (ClO4−) in polar ice preserves past chlorine oxidation chemistry; however, multi‐centennial Antarctic ClO4− records and the mechanisms controlling their variability remain poorly constrained. Here, we present the first 400‐year (1616−2016) ClO4− record from an Antarctic ice core, revealing two regimes separated around 1980.

Global distribution and trends of tropospheric ozone: An observation-based review
Tropospheric ozone plays a major role in Earth’s atmospheric chemistry processes and also acts as an air pollutant and greenhouse gas. Due to its short lifetime, and dependence on sunlight and precursor emissions from natural and anthropogenic sources ...

A Causal Examination of the Solar Influence on Holocene Climate
Abstract Variations in Total Solar Irradiance (TSI) have long been hypothesized to influence global mean surface temperature (GMST) on multidecadal to millennial timescales, but empirical evidence has remained elusive. Here, we explore the link between solar variability and climate over the pre‐industrial Holocene, when anthropogenic influences were ...

Measurements of total and tropospheric ozone from IASI: comparison with correlative satellite, ground-based and ozonesonde observations [PDF]
In this paper, we present measurements of total and tropospheric ozone, retrieved from infrared radiance spectra recorded by the Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI), which was launched on board the MetOp-A European satellite in October ...

Future estimates of tropospheric ozone radiative forcing and methane turnover - the impact of climate change [PDF]
We present a range of estimates for future radiative forcings due to changes in tropospheric ozone (O3T). Ozone distributions were generated by the UKMO 3-D chemistry-transport model for 1990, 2030, 2060, and 2100, using four sets of boundary conditions.

Impact of Upper‐Level Warming on Tropical Cyclone Intensity
Abstract Deep convection from tropical cyclones (TCs) can reach the height of the tropopause and as such an interaction between the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere is likely to occur. Such interactions have been reported in both numerical and observational studies, mainly showing that subsidence from the stratosphere into the eye of an ...
