The photoswitchable cannabinoid azo‐HU308 enables optical control of Ca2+ dynamics in INS‐1 β‐cells via off‐target effects on TRPC channels

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 16, Issue 3, Page 520-531, March 2026.
Light activation of the photoswitchable cannabinoid ligand azo‐HU308 triggers Ca2+ influx in pancreatic β‐cells through TRPC channels, independent of CB2 cannabinoid receptors. This reveals a non‐GPCR pathway for cannabinoid modulation of β‐cell Ca2+ dynamics and establishes azo‐HU308 as an optical tool to study cannabinoid signaling through TRP ...

Atypical form of transient reactive papulotranslucent acrokeratoderma in a cystic fibrosis carrier

open access: yes, 2013
We report the first documented case of an atypical form of transient reactive papulotranslucent acrokeratoderma (TRPA) in a patient heterozygous for the ΔF508 CFTR(cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator) mutation. TRPA represents a condition

Neuronal processing of noxious thermal stimuli mediated by dendritic Ca2+ influx in Drosophila somatosensory neurons

open access: yeseLife, 2016
Adequate responses to noxious stimuli causing tissue damages are essential for organismal survival. Class IV neurons in Drosophila larvae are polymodal nociceptors responsible for thermal, mechanical, and light sensation. Importantly, activation of Class

Evolution of multi-enzyme complexes: the case of tryptophan synthase.

open access: yes, 2006
The prototypical tryptophan synthase is a stable heterotetrameric alpha-beta beta-alpha complex. The constituting TrpA and TrpB1 subunits, which are encoded by neighboring genes in the trp operon, activate each other in a bi-directional manner. Recently,

Analysis of allosteric communication in a multienzyme complex by ancestral sequence reconstruction

open access: yes, 2019
Tryptophan synthase (TS) is a heterotetrameric alpha beta beta alpha complex. It is characterized by the channeling of the reaction intermediate indole and the mutual activation of the alpha-subunit TrpA and the beta-subunit TrpB via a complex allosteric

Social-ecological predictors of physical activity patterns: a longitudinal study of women from socioeconomically disadvantaged areas

open access: yes, 2020
Limited longitudinal evidence of the predictors of physical activity (PA) patterns over time exists, particularly among high-risk groups such as women living in socioeconomically disadvantaged areas.

Do the Individual, Social, and Environmental Correlates of Physical Activity Differ Between Urban and Rural Women?

open access: yes, 2010
In this article, associations between individual, social, and environmental factors and physical activity among 3,669 women (18-45 years) living in socioeconomically disadvantaged urban and rural areas were compared.

Plant-Derived Tick Repellents Activate the Honey Bee Ectoparasitic Mite TRPA1

open access: yesCell Reports, 2015
We have identified and characterized the TRPA1 channel of Varroa destructor (VdTRPA1), a major ectoparasitic mite of honey bee. One of the two VdTRPA1 isoforms, VdTRPA1L, was activated by a variety of plant-derived compounds, including electrophilic ...

Fusion of trpB and trpA of Escherichia coli yields a partially active tryptophan synthetase polypeptide.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1987
The separate alpha and beta polypeptides of the tryptophan synthetase of bacteria are represented in fungi by a fusion polypeptide in which the first third is homologous to bacterial alpha chains and the remainder is homologous to bacterial beta chains. In the yeast polypeptide, a short nonhomologous "connector" joins the two homologous segments.

Generation of a Stand‐Alone Tryptophan Synthase α‐Subunit by Mimicking an Evolutionary Blueprint

open access: yes, 2019
The alpha beta beta alpha tryptophan synthase (TS), which is part of primary metabolism, is a paradigm for allosteric communication in multienzyme complexes.
