Post failure behaviour of a rock mass under the influence of triaxial and true triaxial confinement

Engineering Geology, 2006
In this paper results of triaxial and true triaxial testing conducted on physical models of a rock mass are used to describe its post failure behaviour. The specimens comprised of three continuous joint sets and were prepared from blocks of sand lime model material.

True Triaxial Testing of Anisotropic Solids

56th U.S. Rock Mechanics/Geomechanics Symposium, 2022
ABSTRACT: Accurate determination of rock mechanical properties (particularly sedimentary shales, mica and schists with foliation and bedding planes) is critical to the safe design and excavation of underground mines and tunnels.

Development of a True Triaxial Testing Apparatus

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 1992
Abstract A stress-controlled, flexible boundary, true (or cubical) triaxial apparatus has been developed to investigate the behavior of cemented sand under various stress paths which are not achievable using conventional axisymmetric triaxial apparatus.

Triaxial and True Triaxial Testing of Preserved and Partially Saturated Shale

Proceedings, 2016
Samples of a clay-rich shale have been subjected to standard and true triaxial stress conditions to investigate the impact of the intermediate principal stress on shale strength and elastic stiffness. In addition, samples were immersed in different relative humidity environments to evaluate the impact of changing water saturation on rock properties ...

A True Triaxial Testing Cell

1988
Results of both drained and undrained triaxial tests performed with a true triaxial cell on both natural and artificial clays are presented and discussed. The true triaxial apparatus, which has been used for about 20 years, is fully described. The apparatus has recently been modified to improve the measurement of lateral deformations.

True Triaxial Yielding and Hardening of Rock

Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1987
Analysis of test results for intact and granulated marbles (cemented and noncemented granular materials) adds to the indications that strain softening does not express a real material behavior; it highlights similarities in stressstrain relations and confirms equality of a stress and a plastic strain invariant. The physical meaning of the parameters of

The Cambridge True Triaxial Apparatus

1988
In true triaxial apparatus, samples of soil are subjected to three independent principal stresses and strains. Such apparatus can readily be used for controlled exploration of principal stress or principal strain space to provide information concerning the anisotropic response of the soil to aid the development of constitutive relations.

Simulation of triaxial and true triaxial tests on natural and reconstituted Pisa clay

Géotechnique, 2002
A kinematic hardening/bounding surface plasticity model is used to reproduce the experimental behaviour of the natural soft clay found at Pisa. The model accounts for progressive loss of structure with plastic strains, and can be made to degenerate into a structureless state. Model parameters are calibrated on drained triaxial probing tests on natural
