Further Findings on the Intergenerational Transmission of Alcohol Consumption

open access: yesHealth Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Using 43,817 parent–child pairs from 23 waves of the HILDA Survey, I study the intergenerational transmission of alcohol use within a rational model of trait transmission. Transmission is predominantly same‐sex: the mother–daughter elasticity is 0.10 and the father–son elasticity is 0.09; there is no father–daughter effect.

Simulation Study and Development of Semiparametric Multiresponse Multigroup Truncated Spline Regression for Rice Pest Control

open access: yesCauchy: Jurnal Matematika Murni dan Aplikasi
Rice pest control is a critical challenge in the agricultural sector that requires a deep understanding of rice pest management. Regression analysis is a statistical method capable of describing and predicting cause-and-effect relationships between ...

Increased cervical cancer incidence in the target age of screening—Variation by mode of detection

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? Cervical cancer rates have risen in several high‐income countries despite advances in screening. Here, using data on cervical cancer diagnoses between 1996 and 2022 in Finland, the authors examined incidence trends according to detection mode—screening, between screenings, or outside screening programs—with attention to the role of human ...

The impact of time‐to‐recurrence on post‐recurrence mortality in stage I–III colorectal cancer: A nationwide Danish cohort study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? Colorectal cancer (CRC) recurrence is a significant threat to survival despite surgery with curative intent. The characteristics of CRC recurrence, however, remain poorly understood, challenging postoperative surveillance. This study investigated post‐recurrence mortality and associations between time‐to‐recurrence and mortality among stage

CONSUMER PRICE INDEX MODELING USING A MIXED TRUNCATED SPLINE AND KERNEL SEMIPARAMETRIC REGRESSION APPROACH

open access: yesBarekeng
Some semiparametric regression model approaches include spline, kernel, Fourier series, and wavelet. Semiparametric regression modelling can involve more than one independent variable (multivariable), a parametric approach is usually combined with one of

Kernel-Truncated Spline: Estimator Fleksibel untuk Regresi Nonparametrik

open access: yesEuler : Jurnal Ilmiah Matematika, Sains dan Teknologi
This study aims to develop a multivariable nonparametric regression model using a hybrid approach that combines Spline and kernel estimators. This method is proposed to address the limitations of conventional nonparametric models that typically apply a single type of estimator across all predictor variables, regardless of their individual patterns.

Comparing the effectiveness of prostate cancer screening protocols: European Association of Urology– and European Randomized Study of Screening for Prostate Cancer–based strategies

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? Although screening reduces prostate cancer mortality, concerns about overdiagnosis and unnecessary biopsies have given rise to more tailored strategies. The European Association of Urology (EAU) proposed a risk‐adapted screening strategy combining prostate‐specific antigen (PSA)‐based intervals, a risk calculator, and magnetic resonance ...

Theory and algorithms for truncated hierarchical B-splines

open access: yes, 2015
For several decades the Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software libraries have been using B-splines and NURBS as their basic spline representation for geometric objects. This is due to the many desirable properties the B-splines possess. Unfortunately, for many years the users of CAD software had to deal with the fact that the generalization of the B ...

Long‐term benefit from adjuvant tamoxifen therapy for ER+ HER2− breast cancer by PR positivity

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? Tamoxifen is a cornerstone of endocrine therapy for estrogen receptor (ER)‐positive/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)‐negative breast cancer. Its long‐term benefits, however, may vary by progesterone receptor (PR) status. Here, using data from the Stockholm tamoxifen trials, the authors evaluated whether PR expression predicts

Cardiovascular disease incidence and cancer risk in two large European prospective cohorts

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cancer share risk factors and biological mechanisms, raising questions about potential associations between the two, particularly regarding CVD duration and cancer onset. Whether CVD influences subsequent cancer risk, however, remains inconclusive.
