Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

O3/O7 Orientifold Truncations and Very Special Quaternionic-Kaehler Geometry

open access: yes, 2004
We study the orientifold truncation that arises when compactifying type II string theory on Calabi-Yau orientifolds with O3/O7-planes, in the context of supergravity.

Chronological and Spatial Distribution of Skeletal Muscle Fat Replacement in FHL1‐Related Myopathies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Variants in the FHL1 gene cause FHL1‐related myopathies (FHL1‐RMs), a group of neuromuscular disorders with diverse clinical presentations. This study aimed to comprehensively characterize the spatial and temporal patterns of skeletal muscle fat replacement throughout the whole body in FHL1‐RMs, to examine disease progression over ...

Cyclisation Increases the Stability of the Sea Anemone Peptide APETx2 but Decreases Its Activity at Acid-Sensing Ion Channel 3

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2012
APETx2 is a peptide isolated from the sea anemone <em>Anthopleura elegantissima</em>.<em> </em>It is the most potent and selective inhibitor of acid-sensing ion channel 3 (ASIC3) and it is currently in preclinical studies as a ...

Use of Symptomatic Drug Treatment for Fatigue in Multiple Sclerosis and Patterns of Work Loss

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To describe the use of central stimulants and amantadine for fatigue in MS and evaluate a potential association with reduced work loss in people with MS. Methods We conducted a nationwide, matched, register‐based cohort study in Sweden (2006 to 2023) using national registers with prospective data collection.

Age‐Related Characteristics of SYT1‐Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorder

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives We describe the clinical manifestations and developmental abilities of individuals with SYT1‐associated neurodevelopmental disorder (Baker‐Gordon syndrome) from infancy to adulthood. We further describe the neuroradiological and electrophysiological characteristics of the condition at different ages, and explore the associations ...

On truncated variation, upward truncated variation and downward truncated variation for diffusions

open access: yesStochastic Processes and their Applications, 2013
The truncated variation, $TV^c$, is a fairly new concept introduced in [5]. Roughly speaking, given a c dl g function $f$, its truncated variation is "the total variation which does not pay attention to small changes of $f$, below some threshold $c>0$".

Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.
