A Statistical Method for Estimating Luminosity Functions Using Truncated Data [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2007
The observational limitations of astronomical surveys lead to significant statistical inference challenges. One such challenge is the estimation of luminosity functions given redshift $z$ and absolute magnitude $M$ measurements from an irregularly truncated sample of objects.

Stability Bias in Lagrangian (Back)tracking in Divergent Flows

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems
Forward‐ and backward‐in‐time Lagrangian advection, used to determine fate and origin of material in the ocean, are mathematically consistent. However, their numerical computations are hampered by round‐off and truncation errors.

A preliminary study of optimal treatment response rates in patients undergoing hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy combined with molecular targeting and immunotherapy

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
ObjectivesThis study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the best response rate (BRR) as a surrogate for overall survival (OS), using the modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (mRECIST), in patients with unresectable hepatocellular ...

Isovector Axial Charge and Form Factors of Nucleons from Lattice QCD

open access: yesUniverse
A survey of the calculations of the isovector axial vector form factor of the nucleon using lattice QCD is presented. Attention is paid to statistical and systematic uncertainties, in particular those due to excited state contributions.

Generating Random Samples from Non-Identical Truncated Order Statistics

open access: yes, 2019
We provide an efficient algorithm to generate random samples from the bounded kth order statistic in a sample of independent, but not necessarily identically distributed, random variables. The bounds can be upper or lower bounds and need only hold on the kth order statistic.
