Blood forms of Trypanosoma musculi obtained from irradiated C3H mice were labeled with 3H-thymidine and were examined by autoradiography. Nucleus and kinetoplast were heavily labeled in about 5% of the parasites but most of the morphologically dividing forms did not take up the label.

Trypanosoma musculi infection in the CBA/N mouse

The infection of B-cell deficient CBA/N mice by Trypanosoma musculi resulted in a higher parasitaemia, delayed recovery, and a defective antibody response (IgM and IgG1). CBA/N mice were thus less efficient than CBA/J in controlling the infection. These results indicate that B-cells are involved in the immunological control of this parasite.

Trypanosoma musculi infections in complement-deficient mice

Abstract Strains of mice (CFW, C57B1/10Sn, B10.D2/nSn, and B10.D2/oSn) were infected with Trypanosoma musculi ( Trypanosoma duttoni ). The complement-deficient B10.D2/oSn mice showed typical parasitemias similar to those presented by the strains possessing hemolytic complement activity. Peak parasitemias occurred 12 days postinoculation.
