Neuraminidase activity in Trypanosoma rangeli

Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology, 1985
Supernatants of cultures and extracts of Trypanosoma rangeli readily release N-acetyl neuraminic acid from a variety of substrates. The activity in both supernatant and cell extract is precipitated between 30 and 50% ethanol, and between 40 and 70% ammonium sulfate.

Antigenic Significance of a Trypanosoma rangeli Sialidase

The Journal of Parasitology, 2002
The Trypanosoma rangeli-secreted sialidase was purified by bovine submaxillary gland mucin-sepharose affinity chromatography. In immunoblotting analysis, antibodies raised against this molecule recognized polypeptides of 73 kDa in T. rangeli medium supernatant (TrSialr) and of 70 kDa in the cell lysates of T. rangeli (TrSials) and T.

TRYPANOSOMA SAIMIRII RODHAIN, A JUNIOR SYNONYM OF TRYPANOSOMA RANGELI TEJERA

Journal of Parasitology, 2005
In the present study, we used sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis to compare polypeptides of trypanosomes isolated by hemoculture of squirrel monkeys displaying Trypanosoma saimirii blood trypomastigotes, with other trypanosomes that infect primates to evaluate the validity of T. saimirii.

Trypanosoma rangeli: Epimastigote Immunogenicity and Cross-Reaction with Trypanosoma cruzi

The Journal of Parasitology, 1996
Trypanosoma rangeli epimastigote components, able to elicit an immune response, were defined and compared with those found in Trypanosoma cruzi epimastigotes. Using polyclonal antibodies against these parasites and immunoblotting analysis, an antigenic similarity index of 0.48 was found when anti-T.

Frequency and Distribution of Trypanosoma Cruzi and Trypanosoma Rangeli in the Republic of Panamá

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1971
Abstract To provide information on the frequency and distribution of human trypanosomiasis in the Republic of Panama, we carried out a survey of the rural population in the nine provinces and the San Blas Territory. After direct examination of blood and hemoculture procedures, we examined 12,975 blood samples, corresponding to 10,570 persons, for ...

Use of Micro-Elisa for Quantitating Antibody to Trypanosoma Cruzi and Trypanosoma Rangeli

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1979
Of 229 residents of a Panamanian village where both Trypanosoma cruzi and Trypanosoma rangeli are endemic, 52% had antibody to one or both species by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), 26% were positive by complement fixation, 17% were positive by direct agglutination, and 32% were positive on the basis of clinical impression.

Human urine stimulates in vitro growth of Trypanosoma cruzi and Trypanosoma rangeli

Parasitology Research, 2007
Previous studies conducted in Leishmania led us to test the hypothesis that addition of human urine (HU) to the Liver Infusion Tryptose (LIT) medium would stimulate the in vitro growth of Trypanosoma cruzi and Trypanosoma rangeli strains. Herein, we show that the addition of 3% HU to LIT medium (LIT-HU3) significantly stimulated the growth of all the T.

Trypanosoma cruzi and Trypanosoma rangeli: Interplay with Hemolymph Components of Rhodnius prolixus

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1995
Studies were carried out on the course of infection of Trypanosoma cruzi (clone Dm28c) and Trypanosoma rangeli (clone San Agustin) and their interactions with hemolymph components of Rhodnius prolixus. These parasites when inoculated into the hemocoel of adult R. prolixus (i) had different courses of infection (T.

Search for Trypanosoma Rangeli in Endemic Areas of Trypanosoma Cruzi in Argentina and Brazil

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1977
Because the presence of Trypanosoma rangeli in Argentina and Brazil has not been confirmed, a serach was carried out in man and triatomine insects. Fifty-nine of 207 persons (28.5%) were infected when studied with one or more xenodiagnosis (40 Triatoma infestans/xenodiagnosis); 0.1% to 13% of 7,821 bugs' feces and 4% of 875 dissected midguts showed T ...

Immune Response and Trypanosoma Cruzi Infection in Trypanosoma Rangeli-Immunized Mice

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1991
The capacity of Trypanosoma rangeli antigens to induce immune response in mice was analyzed and the course of the infection was studied in immunized animals challenged with virulent forms of T. cruzi. BALB/c mice were immunized with supernatant of disrupted epimastigotes of T. rangeli and with epimastigotes (EPI) of T. rangeli fixed with glutaraldehyde.
