ABSTRACT Thaumatotibia leucotreta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) is a key phytosanitary pest of citrus in South Africa. The pest damages fruit by burrowing and feeding on the pulp, thus causing yield losses and export rejections. There are several T. leucotreta management strategies, such as orchard sanitation, mating disruption, attract‐and‐kill,

Environmental heterogeneity drives tsetse fly population dynamics and control
A spatially and temporally heterogeneous environment may lead to unexpected population dynamics. Knowledge still is needed on which of the local environment properties favour population maintenance at larger scale.

Precopulatory mating behaviour, are important for fitness and can be disrupted by heatwave's. Here we assess how differing levels of intrasexual and intrasexual selection in precopulatory mating behaviours impacts fitness responses to heatwaves. We find that the likelihood of having a brood is impacted by differences in intrasexual and intersexual ...

The bed bug olfactory system is highly tuned to two odor sources with dedicated odor information‐processing pathways that are modulated by the satiety–hunger state. Understanding the dynamic nature of switching odor preferences at different phases of blood digestion will contribute to the development of lures with host kairomones and aggregation ...

Palpalis group tsetse flies are the major vectors of human African trypanosomiasis, and visually-attractive targets and traps are important tools for their control. Considerable efforts are underway to optimise these visual baits, and one factor that has

Benefit-Cost Analysis and Socio-Economic Considerations of Trypanosomiasis Control and Treatment in Northern Ghana [PDF]
The paper estimates the cost of tsetse control and treatment of trypanosomiasis and the benefits involved, using benefit-cost analysis. It also estimates the extent to which socio-economic characteristics of farmers affect the use of tsetse control ...

Molecular variation of Trypanosoma brucei subspecies as revealed by AFLP fingerprinting [PDF]
Genetic analysis of Trypanosoma spp. depends on the detection of variation between strains. We have used the amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) technique to develop a convenient and reliable method for genetic characterization of Trypanosome ...

The median PCV of poor body‐conditioned animals is below 20 (anaemic) compared to corresponding body‐condition animals. Black‐ and red‐coloured animals are more significantly affected by trypanosomosis than white‐coloured animals. Multivariable logistic regression revealed more about contributory factors than univariable logistic regression.
