A formulation and a metaheuristic approach for the clustered vehicle routing problem with d‐relaxed priority rule

open access: yesInternational Transactions in Operational Research, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper investigates an extension of the vehicle routing problem in which, in addition to minimizing the distance traveled, the sequencing of customer visits is subject to precedence constraints that impose visiting priorities among customers.

DID A SUBMARINE SLIDE TRIGGER THE 1918 PUERTO RICO TSUNAMI? [PDF]

open access: yesScience of Tsunami Hazards, 2008
The 1918 tsunami that inundated northwest Puerto Rico with up to 6 m waves has been attributed to seafloor faulting associated with the 1918 Mona Canyon earthquake.

Different depths of near-trench slips of the 1896 Sanriku and 2011 Tohoku earthquakes

open access: yesGeoscience Letters, 2017
The 1896 Sanriku earthquake was a typical ‘tsunami earthquake’ which caused large tsunami despite its weak ground shaking. It occurred along the Japan Trench in the northern tsunami source area of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake where a delayed tsunami ...

Simulation of tsunami generation, propagation and coastal inundation in the Eastern Mediterranean

open access: yes, 2015
. In the present work, an advanced tsunami generation, propagation and coastal inundation 2-DH model (i.e. 2-D Horizontal model) based on the higher-order Boussinesq equations – developed by the authors – is applied to simulate representative earthquake ...

Natural disaster risk salience and the strategic appointment of directors with sustainability expertise

open access: yesJournal of Financial Research, EarlyView.
Abstract This article examines how salient sustainability risks from near‐miss natural disasters influence board composition. Using a difference‐in‐differences design, I find that firms located in counties neighboring disaster‐affected areas significantly increase the presence of directors with sustainability expertise following the disaster.

Contribution of nonlinearity in tsunami generated by submarine earthquake [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Geosciences, 2008
Rapid co-seismic bottom displacements during strong submarine earthquake give rise to intensive low-frequency elastic oscillations of water layer.

Boussinesq systems in two space dimensions over a variable bottom for the generation and propagation of tsunami waves

open access: yes, 2009
Considered here are Boussinesq systems of equations of surface water wave theory over a variable bottom. A simplified such Boussinesq system is derived and solved numerically by the standard Galerkin-finite element method. We study by numerical means the

Welfare consequences of the compound risks of index insurance

open access: yesJournal of Risk and Insurance, EarlyView.
Abstract Index insurance is an attractive variant on the standard insurance contract that allows the determination of a loss event to be defined by one or more thresholds on an index that is positively correlated with actual losses. Index insurance also comes with a compound risk, basis risk.

TSUNAMI PROPAGATION ALONG TAGUS ESTUARY (LISBON, PORTUGAL) PRELIMINARY RESULTS [PDF]

open access: yesScience of Tsunami Hazards, 2006
In this study we present preliminary results of flood calculation along Tagus Estuary, a catastrophic event that happened several times in the past, as described in historical documents, and that constitutes one of the major risk sources for Lisbon ...

Near-coast tsunami waveguiding: phenomenon and simulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper we show that shallow, elongated parts in a sloping bottom toward the coast will act as a waveguide and lead to large enhanced wave amplification for tsunami waves.
